If the laser continuously falses even with the car's ignition turned off, then your radar detector has an internal electronics problem. If your radar detector frequently or nearly continuously falses for laser while you are driving even in the middle of nowhere, then most likely the cause of the problem is either poor power and ground connections or electrical noise within your vehicle's electrical system. Jump over to radardetector.net for help in resolving these issues.
Sounds to me like the internal speaker went, this is actually common on radar detectors. Although 9yrs is a lot longer than most will last. If you are handy with a soldering gun you can replace the internal speaker with a new one and get it working again. However be sure to take the unit apart before getting a new speaker so you can match up the size as it varies.
Best buy will install viper car alarms, but I would strongly advise against getting any work performed by their techs. I had one installed on my truck and aside from not working properly, the cruise control, heater control unit, power windows, sunroof, and gauge cluster have stopped working. All that on top of intermittent stalling on the interstate. So far the repair estimate from a Toyota dealer is nearing $2000. While this may be an isolated incident, Best buy will certainly not get any more of my money.
You should try to find out what type of radar devices your police uses.ESD7000 model does not support some devices such as Ku band radar signal, but it should detect all laser signal.Laser signal is often jammed by sun light. If your police uses radar detector detectors VG2 it will force your detector to hide from it making it invisible for detecting.Try talking to someone who has other type of detector that works in your town.It is possible that you will be forced to buy another model.
Hi chris, with just the limited info you posted on this problem, I would say that when the alarm was installed, it was tied into one of the "hot" tail light wires. Tail lights and dash lights usually are together. Might have blowed the fuse for the tail lights, pull it and check it. Was this a do-it-yourself, or professionally installed? If professional, take it back and have them do it right before something gets shorted out,,, Hope this helps you out,, let us know. thanks, Mechanic
Most units are fitted behnd the glove box a couple of screws in it & under it, and the whole thing will come out.
if it has an adjustable sensor then there could be a small hole with a - + a small screw driver turns it up or down, it could well be one that needs programing via software inother words there is a set up sequence which puts the alarm in programing mode...
It depends on the manufacturer. (WHAT ALARM IS IT?)
