Bought this and followed instructions to download the launcher software, then launched "Fabrik Local Backup" to back up my C drive. This morning, it said the back-up was succesful but when I brought the drive to work, I could not find any of the files!!?? Whats wrong?

Backup software compresses the files and encodes them to an image file made up of a series of sequenced files. The same software you used to do the backup should have the restore options needed to locate desired files. SimpleTech website shows Fabrik to be the name of the backup software.
If you utilized, there's also an online backup site used to store files. Following link is the users guide: http://www.simpletech.com/support/guides/user-guides/60000-00168-001.pdf
I don't quite understand what you're trying to accomplish. Do you want to try and restore the data that was formatted on the Simpletech drive? If so, follow the link and get a software program called recuva http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva/ It's freeware. If you can't get it with that then there's another software program that I use quite often called Easy Recovery Professional. It's not free, but it's saved me quite a bit of time recovering lost files that I forgot to back-up.
I just spoke to WD support...here is how to solve your problem:( I had the same problem and it works great now) 1. Connect your WD ext. drive. 2. Click open Computer. 3. Double click open the WD blue icon. 4. Double click open WD_Windows Tools. 5. Double click open WD drive manager. 6. Double click open the Setup icon for Vista 64 (the other icon is for x86 windows) run the setup and it will take care of your problem. enjoy!
The problems is this: at this point, Western Digital is not supporting Vista 64-bit with any of their related software. Granted, some things will still work while using the 32-bit version, but some won't, and the backup software is a prime example of the latter.
You might try downloading the latest version of the software from here:
Chances are, it will still barf, but it can't hurt to try it out. An alternative is to use another backup application; the one included with Vista ought to work. I wish I had better news, and believe me, as a user of both XP 64 and Vista 64, I feel your pain.
