First of all I don't believe that this is an HD set. The coupon is for a converter that will allow an analog TV to receive digital broadcasted signals over the air. If this TV is connected to either cable or satelite, the converter box is not needed.

TV only works on HD stations

Your TV has an SD/ED component input and an HD component input. You are using the HD input. It can only accept HD signals. You need to correct the settings in you cable box. You need to "fix" the video output so that it converts everything to HD. If you have a motorola box, you can usually turn the box off and press the menu button to access the cable box setup menu. Set the 4:3 override to Stretch or Full. If you need more help with this, post back with more information: cable provider, cable box used. I hope this was of some assistance.

KP-53HS10 Real HD

On this TV there is only one input for any HD resolution. Input # 5 is the component input i.e. red/green/blue cable. Just get the correct cable and match colors from cable box to TV this will allow the TV to display 1080i resolution ( only one this TV supports ). FYI you will also have to connect the red and white cables to the appropriate inputs to get any sound because red/green/blue connectors are just for video display not sound. Once your connected you'll be able to access video # 5 be sure to set your cable box to 1080i resolution also. I hope this helps later J.

What do I need to get for viewing HDTV

The TV you have will only process an HD via the component video connections. Your cable box needs to have component outputs and you will need to buy a component video cable to connect from the cable box component video outputs to the TV's component video inputs (should be 2 sets, #1 for up to 720p and #2 for up to 1080i...

Screen goes black and resets during HD shows

Are you on Cable service or Direct TV. Have you tried the analog signal? HDTV ready monitor can use a standard analog signal. Most HDTV ready tv's have analog tuners built into them, meaning you can use standard cable/over the air signals on them. They will not be high definition. You can use the analog hookup by hooking it to the coaxial antenna hookup, or, if you have a cable box, it may have a set of audio/video outs (the red-white-yellow rca plugs on the back) that you can use to hook up for a slightly sharper picture.

Screen goes black and resets during HD shows

I just posted this to another Sony owner:

Another point; HD Ready does not mean that it is HD compatible without the addition of an optional part.
The title only implies that it can be adapted to HD reception.
If you did not purchase it with the set, check your user guide to see what you need to make it whole.
You may have to seek this add-on on eBay since it is not guaranteed that Sony will still offer it.

You might want to check this:

DTV conversion concerns

I just purchased a Magnovox converter at Wal-Mart with the coupon I ordered from the government program. Our TV is about 2 years old too and not HD. It has worked great. The reception and color is truly the best we've had in years. We live in the country about 50 miles from all the local stations and were told we would need a new antenna, so far the only channel we have problems with is the PBS. Not sure if it is antenna related or their signal strength. We don't have the problem until the sun comes up good. It has been great to get the additional channels that some stations have added. Hope this helps.
