Vtech i5807 keypad erratic

When I press a number on the i5807 kepad, a signal may or may not be generated. Is the inside contact dirty and, if so, can I clean it?

I have a base phone i5867 and an expansion unit i5807 they are now more than 2 years old. I am highly satisfied with their performance in all aspects except both the handset keypad have started troubling as it has become contantly hard to press certain keys like # 8, 4 & 1. sometimes i have to press them 4 to 5 times. I thought there might be some dust which might have been collected underneath the pad so i tried to open and clean it. I could find 4 screws at the battery compartment but still could not open it. I don't want to force and break it as i love these phones. I shall be really thankful if someone can help me figure out how to fix it.

    Thanks in advance.

My nokia 5130c kepad is not properly working that the key is 6,9,# is not properly working

Thanks for writing Fixya. I am Marion and let me help you with this.
There are reasons why your phones keypad is not working, first, have you tried re aligning your keypad if it fits exactly on the button, also, you may try pressing the keys without the keypad tofind out if the problem is just on the keypad or on the phones hardware already. Also, the keypads functionality may affect if it had a water spill or had dropped previuosly.

I would like to install an additional kepad to my existing system.

You will need to run a 4conductor wire (preferably 22 gauge stranded) from the main control panel to the keypad location you desire. Long bit are made to accomplish without exposing wires. Contact me for additional information

Wireless Kepad Does not always work first time

It sounds like you have a bad keypad. It flashes when it is working not when there is a problem. Call and get warranty service.

Can put in base id

Did you try this (from the i5801 manual) -

To register a handset to the base, follow these steps:

Step 1: If ENTER BASE ID is displayed on the handset, proceed to the next step; if not, press MENU on the handset, then press ▼ until REGISTER is highlighted; now press OK.

Step 2: Locate the 15-digit Base ID number by pressing, at the base: MENU, then press until DISPLAY BASE-ID is highlighted, then press OK.

Step 3: Carefully enter this number using the handset dialpad. If you make a mistake, press to backspace. When finished, press OK.

In a few moments, the handset will be assigned a number (1-6). This will be the lowest available number in the sequence not previously assigned to another system handset.

Step 4: Repeat the procedure for any other unregistered system handsets.

Reply back if you have success. The Base ID is not from the bottom of the base unit, but is something you get by following Step 2 above.
