Go to the hp website download the latest drivers, un-install the present one and reboot the computer .Windows will on reboot find new hardware and prompt you for the drivers for the sound card.
Try updating the drivers for your sound card. Online tutorials available at ms http://support.microsoft.com/?LN=eng by searching your OS + update hardware drivers. I'd also check at www.hp.com support for your notebook and see if there are any newer firmware releases for the sound installed on your system.
