SOURCE: HANNS-G MONITOR BLACK SCREEN JUST FLICKERS

I have the same problem. I leave the computer on for awhile to warm up the screen. I don't know why, that seems to help. I turn off the screen on the bottom right and do that a couple of times. Behind the screen I unplug and plug and unplug and plug the screen in again. After it gets going, it works all day. But at night I like to turn off the computer to rest. So I have to do this every morning.

SOURCE: Monitor dims on a black background hanns G 28

Go into monitor settings and turn "off" X-Contrast. X-Contrast will auto change contrast when backgrounds darkens. However, adjust manually the Brightness and Contrast settings to compensate.

Try to connect another monitor. It may be that your operating system do not properly recognize the monitor, and it was fixed in the protection because a resolution or refresh rate too high.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If thishelps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonialfor my response.

I am having trouble with the monitor showing a black screen. It will turn off in the middle of anything I am doing, quite randomly. Using windows XP Home edition. PC does not turn off, but disk light...

I would suggest to first determine that your monitor is OK. If you are using a notebook try connecting an external monitor as well and see if the same random (monitor switching off problem) happens with this monitor. If you have a desktop try connecting a different monitor.

If the same condition happens with a different monitor try updating the drivers for your video card.

My compaq xp home edition monitor picture squeezes to about a one inch bar on the screen. Is it my monitor or maybe my video card or ?????

So its been around for a while then.

Here are a couple of things you can try.

  • If there is another PC or laptop in your reach, hook the monitor in question up to that to it and see if you still have the problem.
  • Reboot the PC and Press or tap F8 as soon as the PC reboots until you see a black screen with white writing presenting you with boot options.
Select "Safe mode with Networking" and the PC will load Windows with a reduced number the drivers and services. If Windows boots to the desktop in "Safe mode" with out the issue you described, then your driver may be outdated or incorrect.
  • In this case proceed to update the Video driver.
