I am using ultra mon and have a dual monitor set up with 2 dell 1707FP monitors, for some reason when these monitors go into standby only one of them will "wake up" and the other stays in standby. How do I stop this happening so that both screens "wake up" when the mouse or keyboard is activated?

How do I connect dell ultra sharp 24 dual monitors to dell 9020 mini tower

At the back of the unit you will see a graphics card output. If you only have one then you will need to buy a second one to utilise a second monitor. You will need 2 DVI outputs to run this kind of setup.

Check for bad caps first.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Power button damange ,

I used two thin putty knives this morning to open the monitor case. First, unscrew the four screws at the back. Then insert a putty knife into the small crack between the front bezel and the monitor shell. Carefully work you way around and wiggle the putty knives. Note that the front buttons are attached to the thin black edge at the front, and there's a thin cable at the bottom. Don't damage that. You can take off the back shell though.

Can't power on my DELL 1707FP monitor

Try a different wall outlet. If no go swap the monitor and tower power cables. I still no joy disconnect the power cord from the monitor, hold the power button for 10 seconds with the power cord disconnected. Try Plugin intu cable. If the screen is still dead check with dell tech support if the monitor has a warranty active on it. If the warranty is out get the monitor checked at a local computer shop.

Dual monitors can't extend desktop

Connecting Two Monitors
Use the cable adapter to connect a VGA monitor and a DVI monitor to the DVI-I connector on the back panel.

When you connect two monitors, the video driver will detect this connection and activate the multimonitor functionality.
This is the only way to enable extended display. If you use a standard splitter and connect two DVI montors, the display will only be mirrored.
