Power will only stay 0n for a few sec and then shuts off
Hi,the problem with your ps3 is a heat sync failure,it's a common problem with the ps3,however,here is a detailed solution to help you out;
You have to disassemble the ps3 first, (hint) there is a srew were your rubber boot is on the bottom were it stands up remove this srew but you my have to get a star bit with a hole in the center of it.
2. After removing the cover then sides to the screw,lift the cover to remove all visible screws in the second cover.
3. Lift the second cover in a hinged motion to the front of the ps3 be careful not to pull the hidden carbon wire underneath of the cover if done properly you will see the wire when you lift the cover. To release the wire you must lift gently on the black clip holding it and it will release with no problem.
4. You then lift the blue ray drive up and then dissconnect the wires to it. then remove the power pack which is to the left of the blue ray drive remember there are screws holding this down, remove the wires then remove this peice as well, then remove any remaining screws on the mother board cover except the large philip head screws holding the clips that are in a slant. lift the mother board out to reveil the fan on the bottom now remove the srews that are slanted. the fan will then seperat from the mother board. then clean both of the contacts on the mother board and fan with rubbing alcohol. then seperate the metal from the mother board.
attention; there will be a watch battery connected to the metal,disconnect from the mother board. gently lift up on the metal to seperate the mother board from the metal. At this point you must be extra careful not to move any of the parts on the mother board remove the rubber peices then cover the heat syncs so they dont melt use a heat gun that can reach a temp. of 350 degrees Cel heat for 15 sec on the three heat sinks with a distance of 1 inch or greater move the heat gun counter clockwise on the sensors. during this time the peice must be level or it will hurt the system. After heated you will then need to let cool for 15 min. then flip the board over and hit the exact same spots in the same steps. at this point your problem is solved. Make sure all the peices of rubber that was on the chips is put back in the right spots too.You then put the metal back on the systems mother board at this point clean the syncs again then apply the artic silver in a thin bead on two heat syncs note not too much and not to little just enough to cover the syncs with a thin coat then connect to the fan. reconnect the fan then put the screws back in that holds them together then reattach the power supply but dont srew it down then remove the srews on the fan moter then remove it plug in your system switch it on stand by then press the sensor pad metal to start the system note this will not hurt your system this causes the artic silver to soder the heat syncs together only do this till you see a orange light come from the board near the fan then shut the system down then reattach the fan and reassemble.
