Canon PIXMA MP240 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on Nov 28, 2010

My Canon MP240 printer has the letter "E" in the little flashing box. Also the "Alarm" circle thingy is lighted and so is the "colour ink" I just got my canon 211 colour ink cartridge refilled after 9 months of being empty. Is that the reason why it's not working?

Hi, just had the same error code. I hadn't plugged the usb cable in. Maybe yours is faulty or the drivers are faulty.

I keep getting a "Error

Hi,

You can download the manual for the MP240 printer here:
http://files.canon-europe.com/files/soft33024/manual/MP240%20series%20On-screen%20Manual%20(EN).pdf

According to the manual, and some forums I have read, the 5100 error is caused by a problem with the print head / cartridge assembly not being able to move correctly.

Can you check if the print head / fine cartridges are seated correctly and nothing is obstructing them or causing a jam.

Can the print head / cartridge assembly move smoothly side to side along its track.

Can you check the inside of the printer for any foreign objects that might have fallen in and are causing a jam?

Some of the solutions I have found suggest using a drop of oil on the track that the print head moves along (a light machine oil such as 3-in-1). Be very careful and only use 1 small drop as a little goes a long way.

Please let me know if this helps and if not I will keep looking for you.

Many thanks,

Chris

Have a canon mp 240 keeps flasing P and 3 and the alarm light and on button are also flashing......what the it wont scan it wont print does any one know what this means

When the Power and Alarm lamps flash alternately, and P and number (error code) are alternately displayed on the LED, an error requiring servicing might have occurred.

Turn off the machine, and unplug the power cord of the machine from the power supply. Plug the power cord of the machine back in, and then turn on the machine. If the problem is not resolved, contact your Canon service representative.

Canon MP240 printer LCD alternates between P and 2.

Not sure about your machine but my Cannon would not work when my colour ink was low. The store I bought it says the manufacturer does this to sell coloured ink as well as black. The setting might say for black ink but there is a certain amount of colour goes in as well. I hardly ever used colour as I do business letters so I purchased a black ink jet which uses a black powder and I get 3000 pages for about 75 dollars worth of black jet powder.

Canon MP240 will copy and print but will not scan.

cannon MP240 will not scan. my black ink alarm keeps flashing along with E,1,6 flashing. I'm out of black ink bit I'm just trying to scan photos. Do you know what this means and does it make a difference if I'm out of black ink to scan?

Thank you! Nikki

Canon Super G3 MF5770

Finally fixed it myself. I ended up having to take the auto document feeder apart with a screwdriver and put this tiny plastic piece back onto its little cradle thingy. Working great now!
