Question about Acer Aspire 3690-2196 Notebook

1 Answer

Pink lines on screen

I have an acer aspire 3690 and recently it has been taken over by pink vertical lines on the lcd screen.  I also lose all control of the mouse when this happens.  I took it to the local computer tech and he said to toss it.  That doesn't help at this point.  Is it very difficult to replace the lcd screen myself?

Yes, replacing the screen is extremely difficult, and not recommended if you have no prior experience.
First check that the video adapter is properly attached. Forget about what the tech told you. I would recommend trying a different repair shop, or you can try the "Repair Service" box at the right side of this dialogue box. Just enter your zip code, and it will locate repair services in your area. This is definitely fixable.

Your screen inverter is going bad, you will need to replace the screen inverter. You can parts on ebay, and you may need to take your computer apart to get it replaced.

Pink vertical line in acer aspire 4736z

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Acer Aspire 3690 remove the screen

There screws all around the lcd that are hidden by black rubber / plastic.

Examine the plastic and you'll see them. Pop them off with a straight blade screwdriver.

Then just unscrew all the screws. Most use only 4-6 screws.

Once they are all out. Carefully pull the plastic housing off with your hands. You shouldn't have to use much force so try to be gentle.

Afterwards you should be able to take it from there. There will be brackets holding the lcd in place.

Take those out and then remove the lcd cable from the back of the screen and the inverter from the bottom portion of the lcd.

Swap the lcds and put everything back together.

That should do the trick.

Let me know if you get stuck.

I have an acer aspire 3690. got the swp2009 demo virus. ran spyware doctor anti virus. comp will not load past the acer aspire screen. i have the 6 recovery discs that were made with the original purchase....

if the recovery discs wont work you may want to low level format (powermax) and try a fresh install. only downside is u will need a copy of windows with the serial key and u will lose all your data - http://digilander.libero.it/YorkOne/powermax/ - download and burn to cd >>> powermax-4.09.iso
