Camera Will Not Play Back Video!!

I have a tape that I know has audio and video on it, yet, when I put it in my camera it does not display either. The count goes to zero and the screen is blue like the tape is clean. You can hear the camera moving like it's running but it doesn't play anything. It rewinds and fast forwards, but no playback.

Normally you receive a head cleaning tape with the unit or you should purchase one and let it run untill it stops playing. i suggest you run it 2-3 times if this does not solve the problem then you may need a head chage. the change will have to be done by a qualified technician.

You need an 8mm player or the camera that recorded the tapes. Connect the video and audio from the 8mm player/camera to a VHS recorder. Put the 8mm on play and the VHS on record.

yes you can directly play back your tape into the tv, if your camera has audio video out or an S-video out, just hooked up a connector into the tv component audio video input jack.

Cant playback tape

Videos recorded on one camcorder very seldom play back in another, due to the internal codes put on the tape by the original machine.

Play back has sound only. I have picture only in play FFW and Play REW.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV87 Hi-8...

I am having the same problem. When I hit Rewind or Fast Foward, i can see the image moving clearly.
When I hit play though, I just get a BLUE screen with the Play arrow displayed. So it's playing, I just got a blue screen. And last night, I got the blue screen but I could hear the audio.
Then I put a head cleaning tape in the camera, and I did get the picture back on for a little bit.
Skip to this morning, and we are back to the Blue screen again. Only this time, I am getting no audio. And I the head cleaning tape back in but it's not helping anymore.

Playback Problems

Ditto. Old tapes seem to be related to the problem. All I have to do is put in a new tape, play it, remove it, put the old one back in and it will play normally again. I can't explain why. I know the camera has an automatic tape detection feature and I wonder if it is at fault. Perhaps the camera has trouble detecting older tapes and the brains get scrambled. A new tape resets the detector. It's just a guess.
