The easy way is bore sight it,,,,,first clamp the rifle in a stand and look down the barrel at some thing like a post top at say 100 yds when you see the post top in the bore dont move the rifle any more till you have tweeked your scope so the cross is on the top of the post top,,,the rifle is then bore sighted,,,now clamp the rifle down and test fire it,,,it will likley shoot low,,,so tweek it till it shoots right,,,,you should get it spot on in less than 5 rounds,,,dont try to hand hold your rifle when zeroing,,,you need to get rid of as many wobbley bits as you can,,,gees whats the bigest wobbley bit?,,,,yep we are? so clamp it down till it shoots right! also dont fire more than 5 shots or you will get your barrel hot and this changes the point of aim,,,in a sporting rifle???

Why are the sights in my scope diagonal instead of vertical?

Have you turned the scope in the rings? I would suggest loosening the rings, turning the scope so that your reticle is where you want it, then re-tighting your rings.

Visibility at Dust and Dawn

That is quite surprising because Zeiss makes very good scopes and the optical quality is quite exceptional. You are an experienced hunter and you have other scopes to compare, so I believe that things like checking to be sure that a lens cap is removed has been checked. If you need service you can contact an authorized dealer such as http://www.rcsoptics.com/zeiss-scopes or http://www.zeiss.com alternately you may call Zeiss direct at 800-441-3005

The front rail block which is attached to the barrel is slightly lower than the scope mount railing. Which flip up sight system should I use?

Iron sights should be ignored when mounting a scope. The scope line to the target will be slightly higher than the front sight. That's ok just site in the scope for the distance needed and your on you way.

Sounds like the lens you're trying to use is very slow compared to a regular camera lens. You may have to increase the ISO or raise the exposure compensation setting to get lighter pics.

Question about Swarovski Scopes

iv had this problem many times before,,,its more likley to be a bad set of mounts not inline with the barrel,,, if you have ran out of windage adjustment,, to get over it i use a strip of 35mm film inside the scope mount to push the scope over a bit,,, but a new set of mounts would be the best way forwards

Nitrogen gas refilling in a rifle scope.

At a factory, the scopes are emptied in a vacuum chamber and nitrogen gas is used when the chamber is allowed to repressurize to the surrounding environment.

One possible solution is to re-assemble the scope in a clear plastic bag filled with nitrogen gas (working through the bag to re-assemble). Large plastic gloves can be taped into the sides of the bag.
