It is a Kenmore Model Number 106.9555721, Ser # SF 1216302. will not maintain temperature. Thermocouple problem? I have dropped the controls down but I don't see a thermocouple lead. Is it probable that the dial control is bad or t-couple/thermistor? If so where is it?

The alarm on my Kenmore Upright Freezer is going of every 12hrs like clockwork.

If it is every 12 hours, it is due to the defrost cycle which turns off the compressor and activates a heater to remove ice from the evaporator coils. It must just be tipping the temperature over the drop threshold.

My oven gets warm but will not reach set temperature. Is this the element

Hello Peter;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

I recently repaired a oven that would be off as much as 200 degrees. The normal operation of your oven is to rise 20-40 degrees above set temperature and shut down until it drops 20-40 degrees below set temperature, turns back on and repeats the cycle again.

Generally, there are only three components that control your oven temperature:

1.) The Heating Element - If you are getting heat your heating element may be good. To be on the safe side inspect the two connections on the back wall to ensure they are not corroded.

2.) The Thermocouple - There are several different thermocouples depending on your model and if your have gas or electric. These are easily replaced.

3.) Oven Control - Here again there are several different controls, both mechanical or digital.

I just purchased a oven thermocouple and a reconditioned digital control over the internet for under $75.00.

IF YOU HAVE A DITIGAL CONTROL - GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING BARE METAL. STATIC ELECTRICITY WILL KNOCK OUT A BOARD.

So, go into the following website put in your model number and select parts. Several diagrams with part numbers will appear. Your model number is on a metal plate on the face of your oven after you open the door.
Fine your thermocouple and oven control. Copy these part numbers and search the internet for best price.
First, replace the thermocouple. If this solves your problem then return the control for credit if not install the oven control. The highest probably is you have a bad thermocouple

Temperature control no longer works and grill is too hot

I would say that the thermocouple or thermostat has failed or the thermocouple may not be in the correct position. The thermocouple is the metal wire with a bulb on the end which usually sits in the cooing area, clipped to the sides or back.. This senses the heat and turns down or turns off the gas, to maintain which temperature you have selected.

Why does my oven thermometer read less than the temperature the oven is set at?

An oven doesn't go to the temp selected. That is the average temp. If you set it to 350, it may drop to 300, then to 400, but will maintain an average of 350. Without knowing your model #, it is hard to say. Some have anticipator (that anticipates the temp and controls the heater and the thermocouple that is trying to keep the temp steady. Some models have an adjustment at the oven switch (rear) that can be adjusted for temp up or down.

Oven does not maintain a consistent temperature

Is this oven gas or electric? If it is gas then it can be normal to see 30 to 50 degrees difference in tempature. The tempature in a gas oven works on the average tempature. For example: The oven tempature may rise all the way up to 370 degrees. Then the burner will shut off. And then the tempature can drop all the way to 330 degrees. Then take 330 and add that to 370 then divide that number by two and the average tempature will be 350. If your oven is electric then the tempature should be much more consistant but can have a 10 to 15 degree variance. Also the standard oven tempature guage that you put in the oven or even the temp guage built into the oven are not very accurate. We us a Fluke meter with a thermocouple to calibrate an oven. So to check your oven for proper tempature regulation you will first need to let the oven pre-heat for about 15 minutes. Then place the thermocouple in the center of the oven. If the oven is electric the take a temp reading every 5 minutes and average them out. If the oven is gas then you will need to take a temp reading when the tempature reaches it's highest and lowest points. Take at least 5 consectutive readings and average them out. You should get an average within 10 degrees of set temp(350 degrees). If it is off by 35 degrees or less you can usually caluibrate the thermostat back to proper temp. This procedure can be different for each range model. If it is more than 35 degrees off or you are getting irratic readings then the thermostat or thermostat components might need to be replaced.

I have a Kenmore 30 inch drop in oven. Model 911.4558813. The oven will come up to temp and stay for a while. Then it will shut down for no apparent reason. If you Bake again it will turn right back on.

Shut down as in turns off or just refuses to maintain temperature? If the control is resetting to off there may be a loose or broken power wire going to the control board. If it just quits heating the sensor or a relay on the relay board is the culprit.

I need to know how to light the pilot on my somewhat old water heater. The model is called the challenger 5 the model number 153.331471

On these older gas water heaters there is a gas control with temperature selection and below that is a removable cover. Once you remove the cover you can gain access to the pilot. You must rotate the knob on the top of the control to the pilot position. When in the pilot position, hold the red button down and light the pilot. Continue to hold the button down after the pilot is lit for about one minute. If when you release the red button the pilot goes out, try one more time. If it goes out again after releasing the button your thermocouple is bad and must be replaced. The thermocouple generates a millivolt electrical current that hold the gas valve in the operating condition when the pilot is lit. When the pilot goes out there is no heat to generate this small electrical field.
