If you are using a laptop, you might have pressed the button to switch from LCD to external display. The key combination depends on your laptop model, but it is usually Fn+F4 or some other function key. Look for a function key that also has an icon looking something like an external monitor. 48d40f3.jpg Try pressing function and that key a couple times to see what happens.

pandres, Your monitor will need troubleshooting to find out reason why the 2 "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" fail to remain lighted. They provide "white light" so you can see what is on the lcd panel. Connect a "known good" monitor to your pc to prove monitor is bad. If pc is ok, then your monitor will need repair. This type problem not new and is very common for all brands of ccfl back-lit lcd monitors. Watch some video clips at YOUTUBE that show disassembly and repair of ccfl lcd monitors. mr farhanpk, When very strange stuff starts to appear on the screen of any older model ccfl -back-lit lcd display I would certainly suspect and investigate the monitors ac to dc internal power supply for BAD, SWOLLEN, LEAKY electrolytic filter capacitors. Check your pc with a "known-good" monitor to make certain it is not the pc causing the problem. 12fixlouie

Problems with my monitor

See HP 1703 album. You need to remove the old solder from the 4 inductors, clean the inductor leads and resolder, also look for purple caps with bulging tops, replace them.

When I turn on My HP Laptop the system start booting and all of the lights on the laptop turned on but the screen doesn't display a thing it is always dark could anybody help me... Thanks in advance...

This could be due to presence of static charges or hardware malfunction of video card or defective LCD display screen of your notebook. To isolate this issue, perform the following:

HARD RESET

To perform a hard reset, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

This will discharge the static charges from the notebook. Now check for the issue. If the issue persists then connect an external monitor to the notebook and check if it works fine. You can follow the steps listed below to connect an external monitor to the notebook.

1. Turn off the notebook.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the external monitor to the monitor port on the rear/side of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor to a power source and turn it on.
4. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

At this time, please follow the instructions mentioned below for switching the display to the external monitor:

The notebook's video card supports three modes. Built-in screen only; external video only; and both on simultaneously (mirrored). If you're not seeing the image on the desired device(s), the notebook's video card is probably in another mode. Press FN + F4 to cycle through the display options: Notebook display, External monitor, both.

If you press FN + F4 once, the external monitor will display & there will be no Notebook LCD display.
If you press FN + F4 twice, the external monitor will display & there will be some shading on the Notebook LCD.
If you press FN + F4 thrice, both Notebook LCD & external monitor will display.

If the issue persists on the external monitor, then this could be due to defective video card on the notebook. However, if the display on the external monitor is fine, then the issue is with the LCD display panel of the notebook. In either cases, the notebook requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician.

When I press the power button LG displaying chars for 1 second

Had the same problem, turned out it was due to a faulty capacitor on the inverter board, 680uF 25V (105 celsius rated). Simple to fix once you have the unit dismantled and the correct replacement part. Two screws hold the shroud on, but you need to be careful with an (old) credit card levering it off.

Unit is now working fine.
