Question about Compaq Evo N610C Notebook

Can not access my CD/DVD

Having read the solution posted by Kikoksky on the above topic, I try to rectify the problem but regedit prompt could not come up. Infact I could not even access the command prompt. I tried the Run from the start menu but all in vain.

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in thePrograms list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
  3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    NEC ND-3550A won't read discs

I found out that whenever I put my computer to sleep in S3 mode, after waking up, NEC wouldn't start (even after firmware update to 1.07). Problem can be overrided either by turning S3 off (put it to default S1) or by disabling and reenabling NEC DVD. This may help for some other problems also that are connected to kikoksky proposed solution (which btw didn't solve problem for me).
I created MS-DOS Batch file (.bat) with Microsoft's DevCon tool for this action:

    cd "C:\Program Files\DevCon\i386"
    devcon disable "IDE\CDROM_NEC_DVD_RW_ND-3550A____________________1.07____"
    devcon enable "IDE\CDROM_NEC_DVD_RW_ND-3550A____________________1.07____"
