Can not access my CD/DVD

Having read the solution posted by Kikoksky on the above topic, I try to rectify the problem but regedit prompt could not come up. Infact I could not even access the command prompt. I tried the Run from the start menu but all in vain.

My dell studio 1737 doesnt read any disk when i put them in

HI Friend, In this case I would recommend you to check if the CD/ DVD drive is getting detected in Windows Explorer or not ( MY computer) window. If it is not getting detected there then goto device manager and check if you have yellow bang on the CD/DVD drive option or not. If there is a yellow bang then you need to follow the below steps:
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation anderror code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

### If CD/1) Close all open programs 2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

### IF CD/DVD is getting detected in windows explorer then try updating the firmware for CD/DVD drive

CD DVD Player not recognizing any cds, dvds or dvd roms.

Hi ,

It seems that there is a problem with the driver,here are the steps that you can try to fix the issue ?Right click my computer?click on manage.click device manager.click on the + sign next to cd/dvd drives(please check if there is an exclimation or a queston mark against the drivers listed) ?right click on each driver and click on uninstall?restart the computer.When it comes back to the desktop the drivers would be reinstalled now check if reads the cd/dvd .
The next thing that you can try is go to start.run.type in regedit ?enter then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}select this key and on the right hand side look for anything that says upper or lower filter key?there can be both or just one filter key listed,select it and then hit the delete key .Once that is done restart the computer and then check if its reading the cd/dvd.
Hope this resolves the issue ...all the best

My Combo Drive is not visible

Please read to the end before atempting this.
Is this XP or Vista. In Windows based computers some times the High and Low filters get messed up in the registry. If the drive is still good and you had not had any issues with it not reading disks then the filter settings may be your problem. Try this:

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
Note: Vista doesnt come with the run command as a choice so just type REGEDIT in the search bar above Start..
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders to open them.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
(looks like same file name for XP and Visat?)

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak

5) If you see any of the above keys, right-click on each of them and choose Delete
6) Close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Click Start
9) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drive shows now.
Open the device manager for your version of Windows and make sure the Rom Drive is showing and that it is not showing an exclamation mark. If you still do not see the Rom drive then your drive may be defective. Note: you migh have to reinstall some of your CD or DVD playing/burning software. Hope this helps... Dale
