I have a M7VIG-400 Motherboard and want to upgrade the processor, so I purchased an AMD Athlon 2600, but it doesn't work. nothing happens when I try to boot up. Is the processor faulty? Or do I have the wrong one? The one I have is AXDA2600DKV3C. I was under the impression that any AMD Athlon chip up to 2600 would work on this motherboard. What is the fastest CPU this motherboard will accept?

It should work provided the CPU is seated correctly and is a working processor.

Chip up grade options!

That
is a socket 754 motherboard. It will support AMD Athlon processors up to Athlon64 3400+. It is a bit long in the tooth by today's standards, and only uses DDR memory, not DDR2. You may get more of a bang for your buck by buying a "barebones" system, which can consist of a motherboard with processor and memory, depending on how much you want in the barebones package.

Typically you use the case, power supply you already have with the new motherboard and processor and ram (memory).

At any rate, if you only want to upgrade your processor, keep in mind that your board only supports up to the Athlon64 3400+. It will support up to DDR 400 ram. You would probably benefit more by buying 2 sticks of 400 DDR ram at 2 gigs each, if you don't have much ram now. If your processor is close to the 3400+, then another processor in that board isn't going to change things much.

Good luck, and write back if you'd like more help.

Socket754 Supports AMD Athlon64 upto 3400+;
