Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Web Camera

When I plug in the webcam, it says USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED

I've bought a new webcam... Lifecam vx3000... I'm using Win. XP... When I bought it, I opened it up, installed the drivers/software, then plugged in the webcam... Everything WORKED FINE. I went on Skype, chatted, and on MSN, it was perfect... After about 3 days, I think I UNPLUGGED the webcame, because I had to move it, and then when I plug in back in, Windows pops up with this message:

"USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED

One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click on this message"...

I don't know.. I tried to go to device manager, and UNINSTALL the drivers, etc, reinstall them again, using the CD, etc... Tried many things with those drivers but nothing seems to work.

I think it's something wrong with the webcam.. I'm sure its not my computer, because I tried installing FRESH NEW, on a different computer, and everytime i plug in the webcam, that message keeps on poping up...

If anyone knows how to fix this problem, or in other words get my webcam to work, please let me know; I will be VERY thankful...

Thanks so MUCH!!

These camera seem to be delicate. Call Microsoft support number that is on the documentation and they will send you another one. I did this and the replacement VX-3000 works perfectly.

SOURCE: Lifecam VX-3000 will not connect wth MSN Messenger?

It's not a driver problem based on the fact it works with other applications. Since it won't work with Messenger my strong suspicion is that's your culprit (Messenger)....even though it worked before.

Uninstall and try it again. When you uninstall make sure you delete any folders found in "Widows Explorer" that are under program files (not in Windows itself....or at least not at this point). Make sure you are using the latest version by the way since you are going to install it again anyway.

As to why it did not work you might want to check the Microsoft knowledge base...(there can be some sort of a conflict particularly if you updated software, downloaded patches, installed a new application, whatever).

If this doesn't work...run your antivirus and Spybot search and destroy on the entire drive. If you are not running an antivirus AVAST or AVG are both excellent (and free as is Spybot.)

Let me know if this does not work....odds are it will. Tango

Can't install my web cam software. it says it already exists. I uninstalled it and now it keeps saying i need to uninstall to reinstall. I can't find it to uninstall anywhere. It isn't in my programs so...

Have you tried to remove the drivers for your cam before the new installation (My computer>properties>device manager)? If it's a USB cam install the software WITHOUT the cam connected at the USB. After the installation finish, plug in the cam.

Cannot install this hardware

First of all, you might want to read this:

http://www.fixya.com/support/t299686-install_microsoft_lifecam_vx_3000

What system are you using?

Try doing a Google search "LifeCam VX3000 installation" and seeing if any of the documents listed helps you. I am not sure what OS you are using (Windows XP or Vista? Linux? Another?) Others have reported problems too. Be careful about which you do first during setup. Some systems require installing drivers/software BEFORE you plug in the camera, and some require you to install software/drivers AFTER you plug in the camera.

No long connecting?

maybe..look in the end of the cam usb connector, and see if there's any junk or crud in there. use a toothpick(no ear swabs, please) and using a pencil flashlight, peer into the crevice, looking for any obstructions. you could even blow it out with compressed air. I'm assuming that you've had it connected all along, right?

changing those USB connectors is quite tiring, and requires special tools, and loads of patience.

webcams are relatively inexpensive, as you know.

got a backup for your computer?
