I am trying to use an old armada laptop given to me. I need to install new software but am unable to because i don't have the old admin password. is there a way around this the formrer owner does not remember it.
I have the same problem.

Remove the CMOS battery for 3 minutes - then reboot using power adapter without main battery in place. No password required !
For Armada E500
To remove CMOS battery - remove main battery and any mains power adapter -turn computer so rear faces you with lid closed - undo top screw (T8 Torx driver) to hinge on right. remove screw - open lid - GENTLY prise up plastic switch cover. CMOS battery is just in front of screen about 3 inches from left.

go to tech support and get something called a recovery disk it will cost you some money though and there could be other ways to
