Question about Nikon Coolpix 5600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Nikons will not initiate shutter. Photo button error

We have two of these 5600's, one I bought new and one reconditioned. Both have the same error everything works except will not take a picture when button is pushed. Both go thru all the phases, focus etc. etc.. Just no shutter opens and no picture. I'm guessing this is in the relays to the shutters. Problem could be Lightning or moisture related. This must be a redundant problem because both of these worked great untill this arose. please advise.
Thank's

When i came to used my camera, i found that when i looked through the viewfinder the image was blurred, when i take a photo the photo is black. in need of a solution

Sometimes cameras that have been stored for a long time can experience stuck or sticky shutters. This is caused by lubrication oil residue building up on the shutter from non-movement over this extended period of time. But this can sometimes be easily fixed, without even opening the camera. To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
If you do succeed in opening the shutter, remember to conduct the post-fix multiple continuous shutter shots to lubricate the shutter.

I have turned camera on and set up to take a photo and the shutter release button will not press in to take the photo. I used the camera yesterday and it worked fine!

Turn the camera on and look into the view finder while you try to press the shutter button. Check the information in the view finder to see whether you are getting an error message. If you see an error message in the view finder, remove the lens cap and proceed to take a photograph but, instead of pressing the shutter button this time, press the button near the top of the camera on the back which says "AF/AE. If the camera takes the photo it means you have somehow initiated the auto focus/auto exposure lock which the camera will not override when attempting to take a photo using the shutter button. When you use the AF/AE button, you override this system. To remedy this issue, when you get the error message try pressing the shutter button again. Also, remove the lens to see if the shutter inside has frozen in the "locked" position. If you find this to be the case you will need to contact Nikon Customer Support. The link for Nikon Support is below. The numbers are half-way down the page.

SONY CYBERSHOT DSC - H3 DIGITAL CAMERA FLASH PROBLEM

Hi Jim,
Have you tried resetting all settings on the camera? On a Sony camera, it is called "initialize". The initialize setting is found by going to the menu, and tabbing down until you find an option called either "reset settings" or "initialize settings" and then confirm it.
Many times that will fix the issue, in case something has either been enabled/disabled on accident, or the software is sticking (which happens from time to time)

When I depress the shutter button to take a photo the green light turns to red and will not take a photo. New battery. Help?

Red light indicates battery is out of charged.

What type of battery are you using?

the recommended battery for your camera is the AA Ni-MH batteries
now if your using this batteries Ni-Mh and charged it still id did the same thing., How long you already used this batteries more than 2 years now? If yes it means the battery or the Ni-MH is already defective it means that the chemical contect of the Ni-MH is already crystallized and for you to solve it you need to reconditioned the battery or may be purchased a new battery. Gudluck!

In commander mode, flash still operates when the _ _ _ option is selected.the flash is not supposed to fire. Is there a fix for this?

I'm not a Nikon CLS user, but I believe what you are seeing is the pre-flash that determines exposure of the subject before the shutter opens to take the picture. This flash shouldn't contribute to the overall exposure of the photo. There is a brilliant book by Joe McNally called Hot Shoe Diaries that talks extensively about Nikons CLS.

Shutter stuck half open

This sounds like the mechanism has worn. It is a straight forward service centre procedure, I wouldn't recommend trying to do anything that will make it worse. Leave it to Nikons engineers.
