Is this a Cable Modem AND Router all-in-one? If so, there should be a small hole in the back the size of a pin. If you press a pin in there it should reset everything (including user name and password).

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I cannot sign onto my motorola surfboard router site, no user names or passwords work. please help. my other laptop connects to wifi network fiine, but other one keeps asking for pin or security...

Connect to it directly using a LAN cat 5 cable, not wireless.
Log in as admin to the router, and change the wireless password to something new.
Disconnect the cable then try connecting from each laptop by wireless, when it prompts for password enter the new password.

Motorola surfboard

Open your browser and paste this address in: http://192.168.0.1
That should open the login page. I think the user and password are both admin (you can change both to something more personal or easier for you to remember if you want.) Otherwise, Google "Motorola Surfboard user/password" and you'll get your answer.
Once you're in click on the word "Wireless" in the little banner across the top of the page. When the wireless page opens you should see Control Channel as the next-to-the-last option.
Good Luck!

In need of a user manual for SBG6580 wireless router

The User Manuals for many of the Motorola modems and gateways are available from Motorola on their support site: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Consumer-Support/Cable-Modems-and-Gateways . Select your model. On the next page, use the drop down menu to select User Manual in the Select A Topic drop-down menu. Then click Search. The direct link to the manual for the SBG6580 is http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Home-and-Office/Cable-Modems-and-Gateways/SBG6580-SURFboard-Wireless-Cable-Modem-Gateway/Documents/Static-Files/SURFboard_SBG6580_UserGuide.pdf . Note you will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the file.

I hope this helps.

How do i initially install the sbg901 wireless cable modem

Locate the MAC id number on the modem. May be called the HRC mac id. Write this number down.

Connect the modem to an active cable outlet with a coax cable (the type that you would screw into the back of your tv).

Connect your computer to the modem with an Ethernet cable.

Connect the power cord and plug it into a power outlet.

Turn your computer on.

Call your cable provider and choose the options for tech support for internet.

They will need that MAC id number and then they should be able to set it up on your account and allow access to the internet.

Thanks,
Robert

Locking wireless signal

Did you meant you'd give a passcode for your WiFi network?

Try this:
1. Double click the connected wireless icon on the task bar.
2. Click support tab, obtain your default gateway address.
3. Input your default gateway address to your Internet Browser. (it's like 192.168.x.x)
4. Login by your ID and password (usually leave blank or both ID OR password used admin as the default, depends on the wireless router brand.)
5. Click the wireless tab session.
6. There will be options for security.
7 It's recommended for you to use WPA-TKIP encryption (must contains 8 characters)
8. You've done it!

Any questions? Feel free to ask me =]
