Question about Compaq Presario 700 470024-192 Notebook

Wireless network problem

I have a hidden wireless network at home and have 4 different computers hooked up with no problem (3 laptops and one desktop). I have not successfully gotten my Presario 700 to connect. I took down the firewall and I went through the instructions for connecting it to a hidden network. I got it to find and recognize the network so it shows up and the strength is good. It will not connect. Please help me - the computer is worthless if I can't get it on the network. Thanks!

You can try deleting the wireless profile previously saved on you laptop and try to reconnect and make sure you got all your wireless settings and security with you { SSID, WEP or WPA/PSK}. If that doesnt work than try to access your router's page and change your wireless setting to OPEN Wireless and  for you to view your wireless connection and try to reconnect. If everything fails than you can try reconfigurig your router and reconnect each again for you to have your presario connected too. This wont be a prob at all . I can walk you through with it if you want to as i need more info re your pc and router setting.
Keep me posted.

How to connect the wifi to a acer aspire 5733z - 4851 laptop

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem. If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

  • 2 Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer. Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu. Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.
  • 3 Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to. Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire. Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.
  • 4 Restart the computer. The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver. Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

The wireless network is not working

    > the wireless network is not working

    1. Look for an ON/OFF switch on your PC laptop, which will enable/disable the wireless device.

    2. Look for a key-sequence (FN/function-plus-F-something) to enable/disable the wireless device.

    3. Take another wireless device (iPod Touch, or iPad, or a different laptop) and see if it can connect to your wireless network.

    4. Click "View Available Wireless Networks". Is the SSID of your network listed?

    5. Do you have a "system administrator" (your job-location or your school) who can check that the wireless network is working?

I can not figure out how to get the computer to make a wireless connection.

Add the Home SSID to the Preferred Network List After you set the SSID on your home gateway, you may need to add it to your preferred network list if Windows XP Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled. (Although automatic configuration is nice to have, your IT department may have disabled it on your laptop in order to meet their needs. If they have, you'll need to use the tool provided by your laptop or wireless manufacturer to manually configure wireless settings.) To manually add your home wireless network to the list of preferred networks when Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled, follow these steps:
    • In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
    • Right-click the Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
    • On the Wireless Networks tab, shown in Figure 3, click Add.
    Figure 3
    • In the Wireless network properties dialog box, shown in Figure 4, enter the SSID you configured for your wireless gateway (ExampleHome_g in this example.)
    Figure 4
Note: Figure 4 assumes you've added the Windows WPA Client Update. If you haven't downloaded and installed it, you probably should. For more on the WPA Client Update, see Overview of the WPA Wireless Security Update in Window XP.
    • Fill in the rest of the fields, including the necessary authentication and encryption information based on the configuration of your wireless gateway.
    • Click OK and your home network will be added to the list of preferred networks.
Now, whenever you're at home, your work laptop should automatically see your home wireless network and connect to it.

    Computer does not connect

NEW LAPTOP? Noticed a lot of post for same Laptop as same time.
If try to use wireless - you need to set-up wireless part of router and wireless part of laptop (Wireless Software).
Setup your network same it is on the PC.
Use Network setup wizard, if not know how in system manager, in the control panel.
Network Name is same on both, MYHOUSE is good.
The only thing different should be NAME, like SYS02,
PC would be SYS01, and IPaddress ( first 3 sections same as PC - Last section is indivual system - example follows:
    PC = then LT =
Suggest you hard wire laptop to router to verify network connection then work on wireless connection setup after you get connected thru hard line.

I hooked up wireless router for laptop and an ipod work off the network, but i have another laptop that see's the network but does not connect.......the same laptop will connect to anyother...

The wireless card in this other laptop needs to be configured with this router's wireless settings. It is using the other wireless router's settings and therefore cannot connect to this wireless router..
Most wireless cards in laptops will allow you to setup different Profiles for different router's wireless settings. This will allow the laptop to connect to the different wireless routers by selecting the Profile for the wireless router you want to use.
I suggest you name the Profile by location which will make it easy to identify the correct wireless router.

I have a medion computor which is unable to connect to my wireless broadband. The wireless network is recognised, but it doesn't connect. i also have a laptop, but this connects to the wireless broadband....

first off it would be helpful to know some more details, do you know the answers to these questions? also i assume you are connecting to a wifi router in your home network.
    1) is there a password for the wireless network you must configure? 2) what operating system are you using? 3) if the OS is windows, do you know if you are using the wireless network settings panel that is part of windows, or does it have another brand name when you click on the wireless or network icon?
some possible causes i can think of are:
    1) settings got reset and it cant connect without a password or confirmation to join an unsecured network 2) a new network popped up near the one computer that doesnt work and is being preferred due to signal strength although it is not a valid choice for you to get online 3) in the case of windows, software provided by the wireless hardware manufacturer is fighting with the windows wireless configuration 4) the wifi card in the computer is broken

Can not connect wirelessly with router

The list of wireless routers that are available in Windows is very limited and the signal strength of any router that is detected is weak. This can occur when the Lite-On USB Wireless 802.11 b/g hardware and Windows are not able to fully synchronize the signal strength data. Figure 1: Example of detected wireless devices when the antenna cable wire is connected to secondary port c01153759.jpg Figure 2: Example of detected wireless devices in the same environment when the antenna cable wire is connected to primary port c01153760.jpg To correct this error , download and install Lite-On USB Wireless LAN Driver Update (sp35177) (in English) from the HP Web site. This update should only be applied if your PC has the Lit-On USB Wireless LAN adapter and is exhibiting the symptom. As a work-around, you can connect the wire that runs from the wireless antenna port to the primary port on the cord as follows: CAUTION: This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
    1. Open the side panel.
    2. Find the wireless networking board by following the antenna wire connected to the wireless networking antenna port on the back of the computer. Figure 3: Wireless networking hardware c01153761.jpg 1 - Wireless network board 2 - Antenna wire 3 - Wireless networking antenna port
    3. Very carefully, disconnect the small wire from the board by gently pulling the end of the wire away from the board.
    4. Connect the wire to the other available port on the board. Figure 4: Available port c01153762.jpg
    5. Replace the side panel, connect the power cord, turn on the computer, and use the computer again to verify that wireless signal strengths have improved.
