Question about GE Microwave Ovens

Light getting hot

We just installed a GE over the range microwave and we have noticed that the inside of the microwave becomes very hot when the over the range light is left on for very long. Just wondering if this is normal, because it seems too hot.

This probably is normal, assuming the bulb(s) is the right wattage.

If you're still concerned, I would contact GE Customer Service here.

pretty normal. the light generates a lot of heat. microwave is all metal, so it transmits the heat pretty well.

G.E. profile Spacemaker XL1800 over the range microwave. the microwave comes on but dose not make anything hot. what is the fix & where is the replacement part located ?

We would need the full model number and we would need a little more information.

Please repost here with that information, and let us know - when you press "Start" to cook - if the inside light, turntable, and internal cooling fan all come on.

Under microwave lights stoped working for GE JVM1660SB 005

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Ge spacemaker xl1400 model# jvm141obc Turntable still turns..but while making grinding sound Please help

My wife noticed a strong smell of something burning inside our home. Luckily we were home. The microwave was NOT on...and the turntable was turning and making that grinding sound. When I opened the door, the turntable kept turning....all digital lights were OFF. The microwave does not work. I am extremely angry that this unit was able to continue to grind unnoticed. If we were not home, I assure you that this would have caused a kitchen fire. The upper inside portion was extremely hot to the touch and the cabinet on top of the over-the-range microwave was also very hot. This would have easily caused ignition and a subsequent kitchen fire. I am going to report this to the UL.

How do i replace the inside light in a ge mirowave model jvm1790bk

The inside light is not meant to be user replaced, so you would have to remove the oven from the wall to do it.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts (such as the bulbs) by entering your full model number here. That's how you can find where the bulb is.

You can find and order them easily by entering your full model number from the tag in or on the unit and also find helpful exploded view diagrams here.

Also, your owner's manual should cover that, and they usually have the GE part number inside. You can download them here.

Note that these are likely halogen bulbs, so do not handle them with bare skin. The oils on the skin will reduce their service life.

If after replacing the bulbs, they still won't work, won't shut off, or you have trouble with the fan or turntable, the filaments may have shorted, causing a surge which damaged your control circuit board.
