Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

We have a RCA L32WD12 and it will not pickup any channels or select any video input signals; I could hear some sound. The screen lites up and you can select all the menus. I suspect that the (Part Type: PCB SCALER BOARD Part Number: 2147499B) is bad or I have a power supply issue. What do you think and/or where can I get schematics and trouble- shooting guides? Thanks Ollie

When tv is turned on with cable channels picture is snowy. when dvd or vhs tape played through tv the picture is snowy

Try using the video inputs
What to do if you have an all snowy picture (blue screen or the TV displays unusable signal-no signal or no sync)
1 – If you are using a digital cable box or satellite receiver (make sure it’s on) and be sure your TV is set for either CH3 or CH4 (which ever you usually view it on). If you usually view it through video inputs (video1 or 2 etc.) make sure the appropriate input is selected.
If you still don’t get a signal see if you get picture using the DVD or VCR (if available) if you do than plug the satellite or Dig. Box temporarily into the place of the DVD (unplug DVD) you may have to use some A/V cables (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) to hook to the tv from the sat./dig. box. If you get a signal then the sat./dig box is ok. If not the Sat./dig box is not sending a signal and is either defective or needs to be rebooted (unplug wait 5 min try again).
2 – If you are using standard cable or antenna (source) if possible check that the source is good by connecting to another TV. Otherwise try running the source into a VCR and then out to the TV using video inputs (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) and then selecting the appropriate input. Try seeing if the VCR plays using standard CH3 (or CH4)
If the VCR plays on video input but not when connected to CH3 (CH4) then the tuner of the TV may be defective – see if you can use the VCR to change channel using the VCR remote.
Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

What is your TV input connection? Are you using Antenna? Cable? Dish?

The Unusable Signal sounds like the TV is not getting a signal. Does your TV have a built in HD Tuner?

If you are using Antenna you might want to try setting up the connections and it should search for quality channels that you get good signal strength. If you are on channel 2 and there is no over the air channel 2 it may say "unusable signal".

How to connect surround sound system, at the moment its connected through cable, each time we use the dvd player we have take them out of the cable box then into the dvd player, we have a LG 42PC55 tv.

In order of picture and sound quality -- from best to worst:

1. The best way to connect, assuming your TV and A/V Receiver and/or Cable Box have the jacks, is to use a HDMI cable ( this cable is for both sound and video).

2. Use Component Video out to input (3 RCA plugs, Red, Blue & Green) along with RCA Audio out to input (2 RCA plugs for stereo - 1 for mono).

3. Use S-Video out to input (1 din plug) along with RCA Audio out to input (2 RCA plugs for stereo - 1 for mono).

4. Use Video out to input (1 RCA plug, yellow) along with RCA Audio out to input (2 RCA plugs for stereo - 1 for mono).

Be sure to select the correct inputs on your TV and Audio/Video receiver when you are watching TV. For example if you have connected your TV to HDMI 1 and DVD to HDMI 2, you will not see or hear anything if you don't select the correct input on your TV and A/V receiver for the input you want to see and hear.

Detailed connection instructions will be found in your owners' manuals.

Hope this helped you. :)

D61w20 with sound and no picture

being able to see menu or osd as it called means that your crt are working.. you have high voltage.. and that you can hear the channels means at least part of the tv is functioning...just the video signal is not reaching the crt's somewhere the signal is blocked. try using a different input.. run it through a vcr. or dvd player and switching input through your remote.. let me know what happen.

Ther is a test you could do is you had the proper equipment, and that would be to inject a know good RF signal into the tunner F connector and chech tha point where the RF/IF is converted to audio and video, to determine if the proble is a bad tuner or not. The equipment is a VA62A Universal Video Analyzer. Its a great piece of equipment for this type of work. another thing you can do is get an RF Modulator from Radio shack and input a video and audio signal in to it and set it to channel 3 and connect the F connector to the TVs F connector. The set the TV to channel 3 you should see the picture and hear sound in channel 3. The VA62A is best because you can set it to emulate all of your channels from 1-87 standard TV and Cable TV. In any event a test needs to be run to see if the tunner is at fault.
