I feel as though I've been ripped off! Every site I go into is advertising something. I've yet to be given a "solution".

I've been told by "Encore", makers of Hoyle Card Games, and also "Driver Detective", that my video card drivers are out of date. "Driver Detective" now wants to charge me $39.90 to download upgraded drivers. I am not computer savvy, and I have no idea what they're talking about. All I want to do is play my card games. I paid $9.99 for your company's assistance, and I've yet to receive an answer. If I pay the $39.90 to download upgraded drivers, will this solve the problem? Please Help!!

    I don't know what kind of video card I have, but here's some info taken from my diagnostic page. Computer Name: DESKTOP;

MFG: LAN PLUS: MODEL: AWRDACPI: Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600). The following info. was taken from the back of the computer: Northgate LP41800642 STAP4DR17CC. Will this help??

To: myob247: Under "Display Adapter" it reads as follows:

SiS 650_651_M650_M652_740. I sure hope this helps.

  • asia0127 Jun 24, 2008

to: myob247: There were so many to choose from. It didn't give me any specifics from which to choose, or I couldn't find any specifics. However, I downloaded the UniVGA5 Graphic Driver (v5.12) 2008-05-28. There are others also listed: SiS191Gigabit Lan & SiS 190 Lan Driver (v2.069) 2008-05-21 and SiS UniVGA3 Graphic Driver (v3.84) 2008-04-09. Should I download "all" of them? Or go back and look for a specific one?

    To: myob247:

Thank you so very much for all your help and especially your patience. I appreciate everything you've walked me thru.

After downloading the UniVGA5 Graphic Driver, I immediately went into playing my games (spades), and in the middle of it, the game shut off, as before. I have downloaded the Lan Driver as you suggested, now I'll "RESTART" my computer to see if that's better. If not, I'll let you know. Again, thank you so very, very much..................Shirley Brown.

If you can tell me what model computer you have or what kind of video card you have, I can probably direct you to the manufacturer's website where you should be able to download them for free. Driver Detective just wants to sell their product. If you know where to go you shouldn't have to pay for updated drivers. Manufacturer's usually supply them for free.

Please go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and click on the + sign next to Display adapter. Post back what it says there.

UniVGA5 Graphic Driver (v5.12) 2008-05-28 looks like the most recent one so that's the one I would use for your video.

The Lan driver would be for your network card. You could download the most recent one just to be current.

You're welcome. I came across a couple of other users complaining about the same issue so maybe it's in the software.

Here's a Hoyle Support Link you can check out.

Hello,

I understand your problem. As you have added a new video card and do not have video when you try to boot up, are your trying both the upper case connection to see if the video is still being outputed from the original VGA source?

I would suggest that you reboot and go to BIOS, to see if your on-board video is still enabled.
I you can access your BIOS settings by pressing F2 or F6 upon bootup.

Good Luck

My monitor gives 16-bit color at 640x480, but will only offer 256 colors at 1024x768 -- and only displays 16 colors when I select that... In order to access resolution options, I have to go into Advanced...

The monitor has no influence here - something is wrong with your video card: either its driver is missing (or corrupted) or the video chip has failed.
Uninstall all the drivers for the video(except the generic VGA one), from Programs and Device Manager
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/f/open-device-manager-windows-7.htm
and reboot several times then go to Dell
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
select your pc and get the correct driver.
If that doesn't fixes it then the video chip has failed, you will need to buy a new video card.

Vga driver

> VGA DRIVER

VGA ==> Video Graphics Adapter

DRIVER ==> device-driver software to allow Windows to use the device

So, what manufacturer of video-card?
What model of video-card?
What Operating System are you using? XP? Vista?
To find the correct device-driver software, the above 3 questions need to be answered.

Have you looked on the "support" web-site for the manufacturer of the hardware?

Boutht new Acer4738 laptop recently. I tried to install Bluetooth driver which came along with driver CD . However, I'm getting No Bluetooth device was detected error. Also, Fn+F3 also not working.

Your computer may not actually have Bluetooth capability. Bluetooth is one of those features that is "on certain models only", according to Acer's site. My daughter's Aspire has a Bluetooth switch on it, and Bluetooth drivers on the CD, but no Bluetooth card is installed. I discovered this when I opened her computer to see why the Bluetooth wasn't working. I've found this to be true for several other models since. This strikes me as misleading and possibly false advertising, but I'm not an attorney.

The only way I have ever found to be sure if the computer has Bluetooth is to open it up and look on the board. Depending on how new "new" is, your computer might still be under warranty so you probably shouldn't bother. Instead, you can try contacting the retailer where you purchased the machine and see if they offer warranty service. Or follow the process given in your manual or on Acer's site for obtaining service. Then if your model does have Bluetooth installed they can fix it, or you'll know for sure it wasn't installed. Then you can buy a USB Bluetooth adapter.

VPU recovery problem

I had the same problem (sorry for my English). Ive installed all the updates for XP, then i updated my drivers to top, but it doesn't work. BUT! I was installing drivers without ATI panel, only the driver. The last version of drivers on time of writing the post is 27/01/10 (catalyst 10.1 or something, dont remember)- installing this helped the video to run for an hour, copmparing to 4 minutes before using this drivers. After being stopped again(DAMN), i ve decided to slow down the clocking of card in ATI panel- originally it was 650-400 MHz, then ive made it 400-400 and black screen of death dissapeared for ages. I had very much troubles with this, so i hope it would help somebody. Dont feel any differience in games.
the only thing for thinking is the count of triubles with this card- like ATI_AMD cant create a stable hardware.

I have a desktop dv9000, that have stopped connecting the monitor, i tried the monitor on my other desktop and it works, what could be the problems

Check your connections. Feel for any play on the VGA, HDMI, or DVI connector at the back of the desktop? If you feel play, it sounds as though the video card is no longer seated properly in its slot, if you have such piece of hardware. Open the case and ensure all components are snug and fastened with their respective screws.
If you're using the integrated video card that comes with most new systems, chances are it may have given out the ghost.
Good luck!
