Need help changing a 4 prong plug to a 3 prong plug

    i have a 3 prong that needs to go to a 4 prong but my dryer,my dryer is 28 years old, not sure of model #,  has no color coding to match the new 4 prong color coded cord. how do i know what to attach to what?

If you have the new plug the wiring is the same just without the green wire....just leave it off

The cord need to be changed from a 4 prong cord, 4 wire to a 3 prong cord, 3 wire 220V. which of the connections do i connect to?

Have a kenmore 400 electric dryer, installing a 4 wire dryer to a 3 prong electric plug, now what? Can we wire our 3 prong plug from the other dryer to the four wire dryer? And how would we wire this way...

I would like to change the electrical plug on my dryer


The outlet or the cord? You can purchase 3 or 4 prong cords at any Home improvement store. There is usually an extra screw at the terminal block for just that.

It would be a better and safer idea to change the receptacle from a three prong to a four prong. You would also be in compliance with the electrical code. That being said, here is the info you will need to go either way.

I need to change the power cord on our duet dryer from a 4 prong to a 3 prong The 3 prong does not have a neutral wire does that matter?


I think you need to read the following link to make sure you aren't violating any electrical codes, first:

Yes, a 3-prong DOES have a NEUTRAL wire. That would be the WHITE terminal. A 3-prong does not have a separate ground. The NEUTRAL is usually grounded at the appliance casing by a jumper wire.

Read in the "Additional Notes" section on how to convert from a 4-prong to 3-prong. Also note that some of the newer appliances require a 4-prong plug in order to run correctly. I have a Kenmore HE3 model dryer that is currently using a 3-prong power cord. Since this model Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool, and is identical to the Duet, you should be okay with a 3-prong plug.
