Hitachi 53SBX59B 53" Rear Projection Television Logo

I want to remove the screen from my Hitachi Hitachi 53SBX59B 53-Inch UltraVision Projection TV to clean the lamps and mirror. I took the speaker cover off and then removed about 9 screws. I tryed to pick up and pull the screen off and could not. Does anyone know how?

Thank you so much. I did take all the screws out, and my friend tried to pull up on one side and me the other. I wanted to tug on it but my friend thought I would ruin his TV. I know I should just give it a good tap on the bottom to get it up off the brakcets.

The TV is about 10 years old and in his living room where the fire[place has been making lots of dust over the last ten years. Iasked him when the TV was last serviced, never was his answer. So since we had out TV serviced I watched the technician and thought I would help my friend and do it myself. I will convince my friend that we can get that screen off.
    Thanks much.

I believe on your model the front lower speaker grille pops off, then you will see 4 phillips head screws holding the frame on at the bottom. After the screws are out have someone hold the other side while you using your hand tap upwards from the bottom of the frame evenly on both sides. The frame slides onto slotted brackets on both sides. The frame will lift off, if your control button harness is still attached just set the frame so it is out of your way and not stretching the leads. Clean the mirror with windex and a soft cloth, same with the 3 crt's. If that model has a foil type mirror then be very gentle with it. Don't worry if the mirror has a few streaks left over they wont interfere with the quality of the picture..After reading your post again, sometimes they are buggers to pop upwards.

I have a 53" Hitachi Rear Projection TV, Everything works except the color. The 3 color projection lamps are functioning and all of the tv's focusing features appear to be functioning as well. It has a...

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

Broken screens on 53'' Hitachi rear-projection TV

I think it would likely work if you trimmed it evenly around the sides in order to maintain the central position. Focus may have to be adjusted but thats all.

My mirror is broke in my big screen do you have to buy a special mirror or can you use any mirror?

The mirrors are specific to the unit as they have slight curves to bend the picture correctly so it aligns to the screen properly. To ensure you get the correct picture for your unit, you would have to order the manufactures original replacement part. You can order an new OEM replacement mirror for this model (53SBX59B) from a major Hitachi parts distributor at the link below:
