Blurry/Fuzzy Picture/Double Vision after power outage

A storm knocked the power out for a few seconds. The TV came back on fine but the picture is all fuzzy or blurry. All type/print/words shown on the screen are double; almost impossible to read.

Exact same problem but I did not have a power outage ,not that I know of anyhow unless it happened when I was not home. But I have double vision words and color problems. The tv was working great last night then this morning when I turned it on this is what happened. I have cut tv off and on, tried to adjust the color and also I reset the direct TV also I disconnected the DTV to make sure it was not them but I have same problem on regular TV channels too.

Hello stevenkgray and ADIMEN,

I think what has happened is the your TVs are out of focus which could be due to a voltage problem. First I would warn you that this is a problem in the High voltage section of your TV and caution should be taken, in fact I would suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics that you get the TV checked and fix by a qualified TV repair technician. However if you do have a background the next few lines will make sense and you might be able to effect these repairs yourself.

Items needed for troubleshooting:

Schematic Diagram
Multimeter
High Voltage probe (40Kv)
Universal Video Analyzer (UVA)

1) Unplug the TV and take the back off of it

2) connect the UVA to the tuner F connector and setup the UVA to send a test pattern into the TV

3) Power the TV back up and turn to the channel set on the UVA

4) check the anode voltage on the CRT with the HV probe (connected to the Multimeter set to volts and grounded) and compare it to the voltage on the schematic.

5) If the voltage is not right adjust the focus and screen controls on the Integrated High Voltage Transformer (IHVT) to obtain the proper voltage.

6) Check the pattern to see if it is still fuzzy.

If the pattern is still fuzzy you may have to inspect/replace the IHVT and or its associative circuitry.

If you suspect that the IHVT is bad you can perform a ring test on the transformer using the UVA. (The instructions on how to do this are on the UVA quick steps pull out. or the instructions can be looked up on the web.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Shuttle83

My vizio p4 edtv 46" made in 2003, went from working fine to a fuzzy blurry picture. You could change the channel and it would be fine for a second then back to fuzzy and blurry. I hooked my dvd player up...

This is not an easy fix. It's the main board (PCI) which is the board you plug your DVD player or cable line into. You could replace it yourself, but if your not a tech you might want to have a local repair shop do it. You could find the part online. This is an older TV so the part might cost you $300.

Sony rear projestion TV has blurry picture.

sounds as if your convergence needs to be set. either through the menu on the tv or remote you need to get to the convergence set screen and you need to line up the crosshairs. this usually happens when the tv is moved or bumped.

Blurry picture

If the power to the tv was on when the power came back on it may have caused a power surge through the tv and could have knocked the allinment of the colour tubes out a bit you could try to reallin them via small screws on the colour tubes but you need the tv on an it can be difficult.
