When errors like this occurs, it is advised to reset the printer first before any other step(s) is taken;
Press *(star) and # (hash) together on the printer and let go. Key 1 then2 then3 Press the right arrow key until the on screen menu shows System Configuration Press OK Press right arrow key until failure status is displayed OK again. Keep pressing cancel till you get back to the main menu then Unplug from power for 1 minute then plug back in Power back on.
Or
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color
buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the
buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You
will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate.
If after resetting, the error still appears, the it means the print-head assembly or white pump gear in the printer needs to be replaced. But if your printer is still under warranty , replacement will be for free by HP.
Press *(star) and # (hash) together on the printer and let go.
Key 1 then2 then3
Press the right arrow key until the onscreen menu shows System Configuration
Press OK
Press right arrow key until failure status is displayed
OK again
I think there was another OK after this but not sure????
Keep pressing cancel til you get back to the main menu then
Unplug from power for 1 minute then plug back in
Power back on.
Try holding down the ok -- cancel -- black -- color buttons with 4 fingers while at the same time powering the unit off. Keep them held down till it is off. Then turn it back on normally & it should try to do "Maintenance" & you hear a whirling noise --- that is the ink pump spinning to try & pump in ink to the print head. Here are the details. Got the Ink System Failure message. The error code shows was '0xc18a0005'. The tech had me press and hold the '*' key on the key pad, then press the '#' key and release them both. Then he had me enter '123' to enter maintenance mode. He then had me press the right arrow (beside the OK button) until System Config. menu appeared on panel. Then pressed OK two times to clear the error condition, then cancel two or three times to return to the top menu. Then powered off and back on, printed a test page just fine, copied a document fine.
Most problem experienced with hp photosmart c6180 is the yellow catridge error. Try cleaning the contact surface of the catridge and the printer using moistened cotton buds..if error continues, you should clear the error that keeps on displaying.. here's how: press & hold "*" key...while holding, press "#" key and then release both keys..."Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed...press "1", "2" and "3" to display "Support"...press ">" right arrow button and release when "System Config Menu" appear....press "OK" and/or arrow key to display "Hardware Failure Status"...press "OK"....when "Hardware Failure Status:Clear" appeared, press "OK" to clear...press "OK" again to display "Hardware Failure Status Cleared. Press Cancel To Continue".....press "CANCEL" as many times to display "Welcome To Photosmart Express" or "Ink System Failure".....the last part is to turn off the printer and unplug at the back...wait for 30 sec, then plug and turn on the printer...if asked, press "OK" to continue and allow the "One Time Ink Initialization" to procede..After this try to print...
this is an ink error code: try the following; Reset the system by holding down theOK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and then turn it back on. You will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate.
After holding down OK, Cancel, Black and Color buttons while
turning it off, I turned it back on, it turned itself off and I turned
it back on again, it started off doing the calibration and it took
about 5 minutes, but when it was finished I had a working printer again
Excerpt on resetting the printer from the post linked to above:
These are from the link above: Reset the system by holding down theOK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and then turn it back on.
Hold the number 9 key and the key down at the same time, then pull the power cord. Then put the power cord back in while holding the 9 and # key. You will lose your settings, but the ink system failure message should go away.
