Most CD unit have a small pin hold where the cd table comes out, stick a paper clip in and see if the door opens, there may be a jamed cd in there. To change, unplug machine, remove covers, first install what you have such as one dvd r/w or a CD rw/DVD reader. from back unplug power plug, only goes one way, your data cable, keyed only goes on one way, and possible speaker audio wire. scres on side, or clips that hold cd unit in machine, Some pull out from front and others from rear. Check settings on back of old CD R/w as to s (slave) or M (master. set new to same configuration. install, reattach wires - power - data and sound, install screws or clamp. plug power in and reboot. Machine XP or Vista should find new unit. Some replacment DVD/Cd units come with drivers. install if needed. Easy repair, don't worrry. Good luck. Anouth tip if CD is locked in old machine, turn upside down and try to open CD, sometimes the lodged CD falls in place.

Dimension e310 is not reading cd's or dvd's

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard. If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. Hope this helps. if this fails to fix the problem

It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it

What fix to apply to HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B in Dell Dimension E310 so it can read/play a dvd movie?

Try the following:

1. Go to the Dell.com support site and be sure you have the latest updates for your computer's operating system and the DVD drive, especially the DVD drive's drivers BIOS.

2. Make sure you have the software to play the movie, like Sonic, Windows Media Player, Power DVD, Quicktime, etc. and be sure they are the latest versions.

3. Depending on the movie format, not all DVD drives will play all DVDs. The most common discs are DVD-R and DVD+R and file types like *.avi, *.mpeg, *.mp4, *.mov and then commercial formats. Also try the movie in another machine or DVD player and see what happens.

I have a Dell Dimension E310 with the power button flashing amber. I recently replaced the power supply due to an electrical storm, good reason to suspect the power supply. But the only way to get past...

i suggest using a PCI ethernet lan card with drivers cd. this should allow the bypass of the integrated connection to be that of the newly installed device.

Dell Dimension E310 won't boot up

this could be your motherboard, but could also be your video or audio card too. try making sure those are seated properly or try replacing one or both, if you so desire.
