I was confused by the directions for unzipping files for the update. The instructions specify unzipping only the files to the SD card, not the folder. However, when I extracted the folder, a cab folder was extracted to the SD card. The first time that I turned the GPS on again so that the files could be transferrred from the SD card to the device, all I got was a picture of Mt. Fuji with some Japanese writing and some version of Malata on the screen. I managed to get the GPS to function again-- somehow-- but I don't know if it was updated. What is the latest version? What files should appear on the SD card when the folder has been extracted? Should the cab folder be present? Do I need to do anything to extract the files in that folder?

I have a nextar 14-bc and I was having similar problem and I found that the power in jack had a broken solder joint and when I thought it was charging it was not. I would not turn on until I discovered the broken solder joint inside on the power jack. I resoldered it and after it charged up it was up and working again. You might check on that.

I just opened up a Nextar 14-BCT GPS unit and found the inner side of the ribbon cable is cracked. This unit has the exact same freeze on load screen as you do, so try looking inside, you may need the LCD ribbon cable or both LCD and LCD ribbon cable for your unit to function normally again.
