So i bought a service manual and it says if the green light dont blink when you hold the device and menue button in that the microprocessor is not functioning properly. This model is famous for capacitors being bad in the low voltage regulators on the signal board. Also has been known for cold solder connections in the power supply to the convergence IC. I don't have my notes at home but I belive that model only uses one IC for convergence, STK393-570. You cant see it from the back because of it being hidden by its heat sink.

Our electricity went out for a few minutes, and since then the TV will not turn on. The green light is flashing. We tried resetting it by pushing a pen point into the reset hole, but it does nothing. ...

Your power outage may have been caused by a nearby lightning strike, or any number of
1000 different reasons that cause power surges, brown-outs, voltage spikes, inductive loading,
and/or utility pole breaker trips and resets (this accounts for your power loss (a pole breaker trip),
followed by restoration of power (the pole breaker automatically reset) - even plain old high electrical demand causing an overload due to air conditioning demands caused by hot weather.
When the pole breaker reset, your TV caught a power surge.
Whenever a power outage occurs, quickly power off (or better, unplug) any/all computers, TVs,
etc. that are not protected by surge-protection.
As an electrician, when someone loses an item of electronics concommitant to an electrical
anomaly, its almost
always traceable to a nearby lightning strike (or the power company provided equivalent), accompanied by inadequate surge protection for
the VCR/TV/Computer/Stereo/uninsured valuable electronic item/XBOX 360/Nintendo Wii.
Surge protection can
be provided by the consumer at the power strip (a good one with builtin MOV protection and a
warranty costs $20, whereas a zero-protection 4-outlet or 6-outlet power strip will cost $4-$5).
Your electrician can provide whole-house surge protection where a whole-house MOV-based (metal oxide varistor) surge protector, or per-circuit protection can be installed with
a GFCI breaker (or better, an AFCI breaker) can be installed.
GFCI = ground fault circuit interruptor
AFCI = Arc fault circuit interruptor
Lightning protection is especially important in Florida, which is the "lightning capital of the world."
I've never found a good solution to lightning-fried electronics (random power supply components are destroyed and/or fuse blown), other than renters insurance or homeowners insurance.

Your only real hope for an economical fix is to look for a blown fuse, and replace it.

If desperate to attempt a fix on your own, you could try replacing the entire TV power supply as a module, but even this provides
no guarantee of a fix - lightning damage can extend beyond the power supply.
When traveling, I will always unplug everything before I leave (except the security system),
and also turn off the breakers to unneeded house circuits (which kills the wall switches that
control interior lighting - forcing a burglar to use their flashlight instead of interior lighting)
which is the least convenient lightning protection, but highly effective, and cheap (free).

fixing the tv after a lightning strike is a higly specialized task, you have to deliver it to a qualified tv technician ,there is nothing you can do yourself to fix it

Tv won't come on

Typical reset sequence is: unplug the set, press the power button a few times ( Yes, with the set unplugged ). Then, hold the power button down and at the same time ( maybe with your other hand ) plug the set in. If that doesn't do it, there may be a button marked reset on the back of the set. If there was a lightning strike nearby, your set is probably toast. The antenna or cable brings it into the house.

power surges generally damage diodes and capacitors causing the fuse to blow, any reputable tv shop can repair for a fraction of replacing this set.

Lightning strike

Hello bkindle.....not a boat anchor YET!!!! Had similar problem with WS-55513 and it turned out to be a faulty DM board. There are 4 capacitors on the board that may have blown. If yo can solder, it is a pretty easy repair. I purchased a PDF manual for mine online to get familiar with the model.

Otherwise, you can expect to pay between 275.00 for a repaired board OR between 350.00 and 450.00 for a replacement board from Sears or Mitsubishi.

Hope this helps. I know it is frustrating but be patient.

Good Luck - Richard (MetalDad)

This sounds like the power supply has failed. It is also possible that there are other faults in the set that occured at the same time.

LIGHTENING STRIKE

Ed,
Open the back and take a look at the saw tooth filter cap. It's the largest cap you'll encounter in the PS. Just follow the electrical cord onto the board and look for a VERY large electrolytic cap in that area. Usually they bow at the top on a strike like that. Replacing the cap might restore the unit.
If not do you have an esr meter?

No power to my tv

The reason could have been a power surge(lost power in the whole house while you were out)or a lightning strike specially if you have no indication of power(no lights,no click sound),if this is the case you can start by checking the main fuse and it should be close to where the power cord comes in the tv,if the fuse is black you can expect more damage ahead and it will blow up again as soon as you replace it,if the fuse is not black replace it with the same kind and try it,if the unit does not power up you will need the assistance of a service technician to diagnose the problem.
