Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

LSN1000KQ0 Hello Guru, My washer recently refused to agitate. I determined that one of the three-legged plastic inserts in the coupling between the motor and the gearbox had broken, so I replaced both of the plastic inserts and the black rubber connector they fit into (the parts came as a set). After reassembly, my cycles seem out of synch: the washer fills and begins agitating, then drains while continuing to agitate, leaving soggy clothes being beaten up by the agitator blades. I have rechecked to assure that I did not reconnect a plug backwards (no, I didn't), and at no time was the timer assembly disturbed in any way. Suggestions? Thanks! susan@starelectriccars.com

By chance if you removed the drain hose on the machine when you replaced the direct driv coupling, did you insert the drain hose back in too far, it only needs to be inserted into the drain about 4 inches and should not be sealed air tight
if it is inserted too far it will siphon out the water untill the pressure switch calls for it to fill back up over and over

check the drain hose and let me know if you need any more help

Agitator not working

There's probably a coupling between the motor and agitator (underneath the washer tub) that needs to be replaced. These couplings consist of a plastic hub on the motor shaft, a plastic hub on the agitator, and a rubber coupling between the two hubs. Each of the hubs probably has 3 pins that extend into the rubber coupling. Purpose is to soften the load into the motor and the agitator. In your case, enough of the pins are probably broken off so the motor just rotates without actuating the agitator through the coupling. Search for the parts list online, get under the washer and take off the motor and find out which of the parts is broken. If you see a big pile of black stuff under the washer, that's the rubber coupling that has been ground down after the pins broke. Find out which of the parts is broken, order, and install. It should be not to bad. There are a lot of step by step resources online for assembly/disassembly. Good luck and god bless!

How do you remove the agitator from the Maytag Ultimate Care II washing machine?

Pull out the softener cup. Remove the water seal by pulling on the two wings. Remove the retaining bolt with an 11mm socket and a couple extentions. Pull the entire agitator out of the machine. With a sharp pointed tool cut the four melted portions of the white plastic **** even with the top of the clear plastic ratchet assembly by inserting your tool thru one of the three holes in the side of the top agitator. Pull the top agitator from the bottom agitator.

Whirlpool Washer model # LSN1000KQ0 overfilling

did you plug the hose back into the water level switch, double check to see if it is plugged, if it is your water level switch might be defective. trouble shoot by taking the front panel off... turn on the washer by using the timer, set water level to small...on the bottom of the tub housing there should be a nipple where the clear hose connects onto.....follow the clear hose from the switch down to the bottom of the tub.........disconnect the clear hose on the bottom of the tub.....plugg the nipple with your finger.........gently blow into the hose with your mouth.......but make sure the water level in the tub is at least at half way full...and the washer is on and filling up with water ...after you blow into the hose the washer should agitate.......if it does agitate your water level switch is defective...connect hose back........get your model number and source for the switch.........

I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series Extra Capacity Plus Washer and it won't spin or agitate, but it does empty water out. How can it be fixed? We can't even find a diagram of it or match the model number...

If this is a Kenmore Top Loader washing machine, it sounds like you have a broken motor coupling. The washer filling and draining, but no agitation and spin are common symptoms with this problem. There may also be a rattling or whirring sound as the drive motor attempts to engage.

NOTE: If the washer drains, the drive motor is working. This drain pump on this washer is driven by the drive motor.

The motor coupling is located between the back side of the drive motor and the gearcase (transmission). The coupling is used in place of a drive belt, which is why this type of washer is referred to as a "direct drive". The following link explains how to access and replace the motor coupling:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The part number is included with the link and can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. I have included an illustration of what the coupler looks like below.

00326241.jpg

If the motor coupling is intact upon inspection, the other source of no agitation and spin would be the gearcase. The gearcase on these washers is fairly simple to replace. If you narrow it down to a failed gearcase, the next link explains the steps for replacing one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

I could only find your model number referenced at repairclinic.com. The gearcase on their site lists for about $160 and is listed as item 423.

I could not find any exploded view diagrams of your washer, but the majority of all Kenmore and Whirlpool top loaders are designed with the same direct drive system. You can purchase a Direct-Drive Repair Manual at repairclinic.com for about $20 (Item number 1170635) if you need a guide for reference.

If you have any questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope I've given you enough to work with in trying to narrow down the cause of your problem.

My Kenmore series 70 washer will wash and then the machine stop. If I move it to the rinse cycle it will start agitating again and then it will shut off again. It seems li9ke the spin cycle isn't working

Hello,
Welcome
Either of these three problems may be occurring.

Faulty Direct Drive Coupling (Whirlpool / Kenmore / Roper / Estate)
The Direct Drive (motor) Coupling may be broken. Many Whirlpool/Kenmore brands washing machines utilize a small, relatively inexpensive direct drive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other.

It can wear out over time or fail under overloading conditions. This protects your transmission from excessive loading.

Defective Lid Switch
Check lid switch for proper operation. Check the switch for continuity. If it is found to be open, replace the switch assembly.

All functions operate normally except the machine will not agitate.

The agitator is driven by a couple of different methods. The first is the agitator is splined and slips onto the matching splines of the agitator shaft from the transmission. The second is the use of a bell coupling which is splined to the agitator shaft as well and the agitator snaps onto the coupling. If the agitator does not agitate, first remove the agitator and watch the agitator shaft to see if it is working properly. This wil require a small load setting of water and the machine set to run. If the agitator shaft is working properly, it is either the splines on the agitator or the bell coupling that is defective. If the agitator shaft does not work properly, the problem is in the transmission.

Thank You Please remember to leave a rating.

Kenmore 70 series won't spin

If the washer makes a noise from the front bottom center, when not agitating and not spinning, the motor/gearbox coupling has broken.
closed2a0a669.jpg open7976f3d.jpg It is designed to break, if the load gets enough that the motor may be damaged and is simple (enough) to replace

whirlpoool 285753, parts common to whirlpool roper ge kenmore and about a dozen other brands.
dissassembly instructions vary slightly between models but close enough, some have 2 clips some 3
  • remove trims from ends of control panel 14db4bb.jpg
  • remove screws under trims
  • raise control panel and flip it over backwards
(note: do not dislodge air tube from level selector)
  • remove brass retainer clips at rear corners
    (note: position for reinstall)
  • remove lid switch connector
  • remove lid and body
the motor and gearbox are now exposed
  • undo bolt(s) holding spring clips to pump,
  • remove spring clips holding pump to motor(note position for reinstall)
  • unto bolt(s) holding spring clips to motor
  • remove spring clips holding motor to gearbox
    (note position for reinstall)
  • there will be a plastic 3 legged 'spider' on the gearbox, and one on the motor, and a rubber ring with 6 holes that match the positions of the legs
  • remove the ring and spiders
  • take the ring and spiders to the local parts guy and get replacement,
(Note the local parts guy will have the replacement, it is common to ge, whirlpool, roper, kenmore, new maytag, frigidaire and many others.)
  • use a piece of dowel, to hammer the center of the spider to the input shaft of the gearbox and the motor shaft,
(note dont hit the legs they break.)
(note: new spiders have metal center hubs, this is a common failure and the replacements have been strengthened)
  • turn gearbox shaft 1 leg up 2 legs down
  • turn motor shaft 2 legs up 1 leg down
  • insert new rubber ring over gearbox spider
  • insert motor into rubber ring
reinstall springclips
pump
pump springclips
body
control panel
in reverse order to above

gearbox coupling ~$17.00
time ~25 minutes, but I do 3-4/month
