Question about Saeco Magic De Luxe Espresso Machine

2 Answers

I have had a Saeco Magic Deluxe for about 5 years now. About two weeks ago it stopped working overnight. The machine will turn on and make a couple of 'whirring' sounds, heat up as normal, but then will only dispense hot water. It will not grind beans, dispense coffee, heat steam or anything else. No buttons work at all and the only way to turn off the machine is via the rocker switch on the side. I have cleaned the machine thoroughly (well cleaned it anyway), pulled out what I can without unscrewing anything but can't see anything obvious amiss. The service centre will charge $70 just to look at it not to mention the $50 courier fee. Any suggestions before I send it off?

I have a Magic Delux that is 12+ years old and I've replaced just about everything in it, except maybe the brew group drive motor (but that is my present problem). love the machine, but it's only running because I know how to fix these things.

You say you cleaned the machine well. did any water by chance run over the front, where the keys are? one time I spilled here and it shorted out my control board, which then had to be replaced.
those are the symptoms, basically nothing works, since the brains are dead.
Will the pump still put out water when you open the steam valve?
If so, that's a good sign, but still doesn't mean your board isn't fried.

If you decide to fix it, be careful to know how things go back together. Mark all of the connectors going to the logic board (14 or so) with the J# on the circuit board, so you know where they go back.
Take off the cover to get inside, then remove the control board and inspect it for any dark areas, which is where it has overheated or shorted. this is a good sign that it's dead, but it can also be dead with no marks. they are very expensive to replace. I've replaced mine 2x so far.

if you decide to junk the machine, I'd pay for shipping to get the parts, which would help me keep mine alive. email me at stephen@muc.de

good luck, stephen

Hello, i have the same machine only then by Siemens. I don't have that problem only it sounds like your coffe grinder is kaput. You can find spare parts on Ebay af you look for Saeco Stratos...

Two weeks ago I paid > $100 for a full service (Saeco Magic Deluxe) and now the machine won't grind the coffee beans. Any suggestions so I can be a bit "knowledgable" if I need to take it...

Hi
If the grinder is spinning your grind set is too fine. Push the lever below the bean hopper to the back. It can go to a coarser setting anytime but the grinder has to be spinning to make it finer. They may not have set the grinder correctly. Have them walk you through the process. It also takes about 2 to 3 times before the grinder fills to work.

The grinder grinds too long, then stops and then the bean refill light goes on, ---there are plenty of beans but no coffee being made. I think the grinder is not working somehow. Its a 5 year old Saeco...

The lever under the bean hopper is set to low. Push it all the way to the back.
There is a leverbehind the door in the middle top. Pull it to the minus and try again.
If that doesn't work you are going to have to take the grinder apart and clean it.

I own the Saeco Magic Deluxe machine - when we turn it on, it never heats up.

this could be a couple of different problems.
1. the heating element has gone bad (seldom).
2. the drive electronics on the control board have died, which means you need a new control board. (fairly common).
3. the wires connecting the heating element have come loose (was someone inside your device?).
4. the thermastat on the heating element has gone bad (open) and needs replacing. (measure with an ohm meter after disconnecting the connector to the control board).
If you decide you want to trash this unit, I'd pay for shipping to have the parts. I am keeping my old (12+ years) machine alive. already replaced 2 control boards. (email stephen@muc.de, i'm located in CA, USA).
Hope this helps, stephen

My Saeco won't grind the beans

There's moisture in the grinder & it's clogged - just dismantle the grinder & clean it, then ensure you don't splash water into the bean hopper when you fill the water tank.

No power!

Keever's right. Thermistor inside the machine. Saeco will not sell it to you. Has to be sent into a repair center.

Worse case it could also be the board and here's where the bad news comes in.

Saeco does not carry the magic deluxe boards anymore.

Saeco Magic 2nd light to the left (ON RED LIT)

Sound like descaling warning light, need to run descaling solution through the machine (follow instructions, you can download a manual on saeco's website) this light can be turned off by pressing and holding the steam button for 5 seconds.
