Spyware cause the same effect as general browser pop-ups but they are usually powered by Browser Helper Objects, ActiveX controls which attaches to Internet Explorer and contacts their servers without your knowledge. This not only means waste of internet bandwidth, but your private information may also be sent to someone. You need to treat any outgoing connection without your permission, as a security threat.
Along with your anti-virus software, you need to anti-spyware tools such as Ad-AwareSpybot Search & DestroySpyware Blaster at a bare minimum. You must update the pattern files before scanning just like what you do for your anti-virus software.

  • Use HOSTS file to block unwanted ad servers and sites that are known to spread malware
  • Increase your browser security settings. Visit the following link to learn how to protect the system from parasites.
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
(Site packed with full of security tips, advice to prevent parasites being installed)
  • Use an application-based firewall, such as Zone Alarm, Sygate etc. They alert you whenever an outgoing traffic by a new application is detected. By doing this, you are preventing dialers, Trojans accessing the internet. Give equal importance to the configuration of the firewall. Assume your firewall as the gatekeeper, and only allow programs that you want, to access the internet. You may then test the effectiveness of the Firewall (for inbound protection) using any of these websites. They scan your system for open ports and vulnerabilities and advice you what action to take.

I keep getting a message that Internet Explorere is operating with no add-ons. But, when I check, they are enabled. Also, I cannot get pop-ups on Ancestry.com, but my pop-up blocker is not on.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. If this doesn't work. Try using a different browser like FireFox. You can import your bookmarks from ie. If this doesn't work. Back up your files to an external storage and do a full system restore. This returns your computer to an out of the box state.

My computor wont let me open internetexplorer it show error please send to microsoft i beleive it has some kind of virus that is blocking me access ?

hi,
it's possible that this might be the result of a virus attack in which case you should run a full anti virus scan on your system. However, there's also the possibility of a missing configuration file from the internet explorer setup. I suggest you uninstall the internet explorer and then download a new current version. Hope this helps

You could have been infected with a virus or malware.
Run your anti-virus program and remove any viruses.
Then reinstall IE, you may need to uninstall the existing IE first, then reboot your computer and then install IE.

I used Tax Act to file my income returns, but when I went to print the state, I got a message that Internet Explorer had blocked this site. I checked under Tools and The pop up blocker is not on.

IE is kinda messed up when it comes to working right. Most times it is some kinda other pop up blocker like yahoo tool bar, Google or some times even the anti virus one. Under address bar make sure there nothing that shows like little eye kinda looking thing with line though it or some thing that just shows a number. This should help.

I downloaded internet explorer from the computer and now it won't respond when I try to get on internet explorer.I't an emacihnes model w3609

If u are using internet explorer 8 its possible the installation was not done correctly or there could be an error. If there is an option to uninstall IE 8 or the version that u have installed try uninstalling from computer then check with old version of IE. If possible download another browser like firefox,Opera or chrome then check. If your IE is corrupted the only way to resolve is to repair the operating system or reinstalled Operating system.
