Question about Gateway GT4022 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Gateway GT4022 After getting the gateway pc i skipped alot of the initial setup steps so i could get into windows right away and start uninstalling all the junk you get with a new pc and now my computer is convinced it has no ethernet ports and no lan card or network connection. the lan ports are turned on in bios i have even tried reinstalling the mobo drivers but still no success. i even tried using the recovery partition to go back to factory specs and that didnt work.

its xp media center os and the ethernet is built into the boared. it would be nice to fix this so teh ethernet ports on the boared would work.

Is Eithernet card on board or a card. If a card, turn off computer, remove card, boot up shut down reinstall card and XP or Vista should find drives and install.

I assume, and you know what happens when you assume, it has a realtek eithernet card, you might get on the internet with anouther computer and see if you can down load realtek drivers. Realtek are very common in new computers. Also you could look up the specs of a gateway and see what eithernet drives they use. Or install a seperate PCI eithernet card...good luck

The screen goes fuzzy because the video chip has failed. Since this is an onboard one you will have to replace either the motherboard or the entire pc if you don't know how to do that .

I have a gateway gt4022 running windows xp. When

Probably hardware failure. To test that remove all disks and extra components and try again to boot into BIOS. If you can't then you will know for sure. If you can then take the opportunity to change the boot order and put the cd first and the hd second. Now connect an optical unit and try to boot in a bootable disk, preferably a Linux Live-CD. If you can then the hard disk is dead, replace it.

Try a different monitor (borrow one). If that doesn't work, you need to take it to the shop.

Gateway GT4022 Motherboard failed

Well, I think gateway is just a computer manufacturer, so if you are still under warranty, you could possibly get a replacement. But before doing anything, and if you are comfortable with doing so, open up the side of the casing, and take a look around, see if any cables seem unconnected.

MOTHER BOARD

You might be able to find something that can use all your hardware on www.newegg.com. As for that exact same motherboard, you probably will have to call gateway.

Gateway gt4023

eistot. Let me guess. You operating system is Vista. This is a common problem for Vista users. Open control panel, open system, click the hardware tab, click the device manager button.
Scroll down to your devices that have a yellow ! point. Right click once on a device & left click update. Windows hardware update wizard will open, click not at this time & click next. Click install from a list or specific loacation. Click the brows button & than next. Point windows to C:\windows\system32 & choose to look in sub folders too. Windows should find your USB devices again.
If windows fails this endeavor please just post back here with your results so I can suggest another rout.

Good Luck & kind Regards eistot

Need systems restore disk for Gateway

Hi,

I'm not sure if you hope to rescue your files and documents but a system restore disk won't do this, it will wipe you hard disk and return it to factory default. therefore you could just start again with any copy of windows XP. You'll need driver disks but you can download them from the gateway website. you can get an XP disk cheaply on ebay.
