Question about Canopus ADVC-110 A/D Converter (77010150105) Video Capture

ADVC110 - not recognised by computer

I have tried to hook up the ADVC110 to several computers (two running windows XP SP2 and one running mac Leopard.) None of these recognize the ADVC110, and when i try to capture video in windows movie maker / imovie it says a capture device was not detected. I am sure the settings on the ACVC110 are correct, i have attached its input to a camera and output to a RCA cable going into a TV, and the TV picks up the video. I have tried two different fire wire cables, but i still don't pick up anything on the computers. Any suggestions? thanks in advance.

If you're using the AC adapter, try it without (using a 6-pin to 6-pin Firewire cable) the AC adapter.

Otherwise try a different Firewire cable.

i love a well informed person with computers. so many people post here and don' t give any other information; and for that i thank and congratulate you. now for your resolution. i have read up on this particular unit and with this one i have found several hundred issues with the quality. especially when viewing on larger LCD screens.
knowing this, i suggest the upgraded model. Canopus ADVC 300 Analog / Digital Video Converter......http://www.firewire-1394.com/canopus-advc-300.htm
now with that said you mentioned you have a pinnacle av/dv card. my question involves the issue with your firewire. on most cards of this nature they want to be "alone". meaning that the card wants to be in a pci slot to itself with no neighbors. i suggest putting it in the very first slot available to avoid this and then putting your other cards in the remaining slots. this card you are using is also a little outdated. here is a better card.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Compro-Videomate-C500-PCI-DV-Analog-Capture-Card-2-/170586107840?pt=AU_Components&hash=item27b7b96fc0#ht_1080wt_905

My EasyCAP 2.0 worked fine with Windows XP SP2, but now I have upgraded to XP SP3, the drivers no longer appear to work. Is there a fix for this problem?

Uninstall and reboot your computer and reinstall the easy cap drivers. Make sure to connect it first and once detected , reinstall the drivers.

I have this unit, and the driver CD for windows XP. Now, I am installing this unit to my new computer running windows 7. Do I need a undated driver, or my existing CD will work. My unit model number is...

It will work though it will show certain problems while performing it's functions. Updated driver is necessary as Windows 7 and XP are different.
Also, sometimes, the drivers won't get installed as it is made for XP.

When i uses window xp sp2 then 3d games runs faster then when i uses window 7

Windows 7 uses a lot more of your computer's graphics capabilities than Windows XP does. Try turning off Aero in Windows 7 and disabling unnecessary options like animation or cursor shadows to free up some graphics memory and processing.

Cant capture video

Not having camcorder control is normal, as the ADVC110 doesn't translate DV (AV/C) control to anything else. It just accepts and replies to deck control commands so the capture application doesn't get stuck waiting for a response.

First off, make sure you only have the ADVC110, your VCR, and your computer connected. No other Firewire devices.

Be sure your have the output from your VCR connected to the ADVC's input. Connect your VCR's output to your TV. You should see in iMovie the same image you see on your TV, slightly delayed.

PAL Problem and ADVC110

It's difficult to tell what's really going on by looking at the PC monitor. You should generate a DV file and play it back through the ADVC to a TV and see.

The issue is interlacing. Since the two fields of interlaced video are originated at different points in time, when you play both fields on a non-interlaced display like a PC monitor, you see the two combined and they don't match up. So you get half of a ball before the line, and half of the ball after the line and it looks funny.
