Can not scan

When this happen it is usually the USB cable. When this happen it is usually a problem with the USB cable. If
communication on USB cable is bad, as a result you can print but not
scan.Having also messed up a bit with the drivers ("HP digital
monitoring icon anymore"), you may also need to reinstall the driver.
My suggestion on how to proceed is the following.
Buy a better usb cable, the shilded ones cost a couple of dollars more but guarantee better communication.
Unplug printer from usb.
Unplug computer and printer from power for two minutes.
Plug back computer and printer to power, DO NOT plug in USB cable yet, leave printer NOT connected to pc.
Reinstall
drivers and software, keep printer disconnected until connection is
explicitely required by printer software installation process, or after
installing.
Connect printer when required.
Check that there is no
electric device (power adapters, extension etc.) very near to printer
USB cable, they can cause electromagnetic disturbance.
Try scanning. If it does not work at thhis point is either a problem with windows (new windows install required) or a faulty scanner.

I can copy but can't scan

What OS does your computer have? Can you launch a scan from your computer (not the buttons on the all-in-one)? (This will work if the scanner driver is installed.) You should always do this at least once. How is the scanner connected to the computer? You may want to try a new USB cable and a different USB port. (Scanning requires bi-directional communication with the computer. Thus long USB cables and USB hubs may not work when scanning.)

To launch a scan from the scanner, make sure that you have the MP Navigator software installed. It is available here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp450#DriversAndSoftware . This software includes a monitoring program that "listens" for the button press. Depending on your OS, a button press should launch a query for the desired action. In some cases, you may need to set up the buttons in the Canon Scan Gear software first. (Launch MP Navigator and then look for the Setup menus.)

I hope this helps.

(note: make sure that the software is set to save the scan to a location that your current user account has write permission. I've hit this after moving to a new machine; some folders were locked after using the Transfer software.)

I've bought a new laptop and want to connect to my wireless mp620b wireless printers.I have lost my instruction and disc for installation. I went on line and found drivers for wireless printing and now...

Possible that the installed drivers is not the one for the model and so does not activate the scanning mode.So it will be best to recheck on the site with the requriement for driver for the correct model and install. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.

Hello, I am attempting to scan an important document and the printer keeps saying "set the document on the platen glass" the document is there but it keeps saying the message

The best way to scan images to save on yourcomputer is to use the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan functionon the scanner.
You don't say what type of scanner software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way:
1) Place photo on scanner
2) Open scanner software
3) Using the software, Initiate scan
4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder
Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures
5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned

Can't get the scanner to scan

HP units typically scan BEST when operated through the computer, rather than the unit itself. You MUST have the software installed on the machine, and not use plug and play, as that only gets "some stuff" going, specifically NOT scanning, I have found.

Go to HP.com and download the latest install directions, for your printer and OS. You may have to delete the old printer on your system, but, follow the directions exactly, from HP and plug the machine into your computer when directed to do so.

THEN run the scanner from the software installed on the computer, tons easier....

As a side note, next printer (all in one) should be a network printer, works TONS easier, with each computer allowed to scan, etc., like they hosted the unit. Can also be accessed wirelessly, all for the same money..... Cool.!

I can no get my printer to scan to my computer

Do you have the full software (MP Navigator) installed? Get that software here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp510#DriversAndSoftware and select your OS. Since the printer is a USB printer, is it directly connected and did you install the software before connecting the USB cable? If you didn't install the software before you connected the USB cable, uninstall the generic driver from the OS and remove the USB cable. Then install the software.

If the full software was installed before connecting the printer, try a new cable and a direct connection (instead of a print server or USB hub). Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer and can fail when the printer works. Make sure the monitoring program is running before attempting to scan from the all-in-one.

Next try to scan from the computer first. There are buttons in the MP Navigator software that set the destination and default settings of the buttons on the all-in-one. After you scan at least one item, you will have a better idea of the settings that you need to use. See the MP Navigator help files for the details.

If you install the basic Canon driver, you will be able to scan but not from the unit directly. Windows XP and newer all come with Paint that can acquire scans (File > Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan). Windows Vista and Windows 7 have Windows Fax and Scan that can also scan files (New Scan). Photo Gallery in Windows Live (comes with Vista) also handles scanning.

The generic OS driver usually only runs the printer.

I hope this helps.
