Try removing and re-seating the ink cartridge. When you do this check and make sure that the protective film is removed from the contacts on the cartridge. Also, check the model number of the cartridge and make sure it matches the recommended cartridge to use with your printer model. If everything checks out ok the issue could be the cartridge. Good luck and if you found this solution helpful please rate me.

Try this take an old empty cartridge and mix some ink cleaning fluid into each of the tanks. Now take some alcohol and a Q--tip and wipe the heads on the contacts where the cartridge comes in contact with the printer head.
There are three contacts that control color and one that controls the black . Clean with the alcohol, wipe with a Kleenex or a dry q-tip lightly. Now lightly shake the used printerhead to mix the cleaner into the residual ink that remains in the Printer cartridge. Now once the the cartridge has bee reinstalled in your printer go through a printerhead cleaning and head alignment evolution. Instructions for this should be in your printer manual which is a drop down program on the Printer Program Main File Icon. Some printers will automatically set up this program on the screen in easy to follow steps. If this doesn't work its time to get a new printer , add it to your Christmas list.

Canon MP610 Printer

You cannot switch to the larger black cartridge. You are using a CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black) format for printing color images.

The larger cartridge is used for text only. The smaller black cartridge is used for color or graphic images.

If the black cartridge was not present, every time you needed black in an image, it would have to come from the composition of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. This would greatly reduce the life of the color cartridges.

It is possible the chip on one of your tanks is defective, or if you bought refill tanks, every so often they accidentally placet he wrong chip. remove the tanks 1 by one except your known good yellow thats in the right spot, until the message for too many yellows disappears, that tank that it thinks is a spare yellow(whatever color in whatever position) should be replaced as the 1st step (even with a used empty one if you have one). If the message vanishes, you have your answer.

Every now and then we get a defective cartridge, and Canon will replace it. If it's generic or refilled, you just need a new one. It's a cartridge problem, not a printer problem

The printer won't recognise the printer cartridges. I tried replacing older cartridges with new ones and even this doesn't work. They are genuine epson cartridges and the same ones I have always bought.

Check chip connnector at ink tank and at head carriage. It's may be dirty. Check status monitor? what ink tank not recognized. Press ink light (1-4 times) depends on number ink tank not recognized, press 1 time again, carriage will move co replacement position, unplug and plug again all ink tank, press ink light 1 more.

Canon Pixma MP610 CARTRIDGE PROBLEM

HI. Try holding the reset button for 6 seconds to overide the error. This may dissable the chip so it won't report but will allow you to keep printing. Simply check the ink tanks visually.

Refilling will give the same error too, again dissable the error.

Orange light blinking

Solution: Confirm the ink tank(s) are properly installed iP4300

Ensure that the ink tank is installed properly. Open the Top Cover, Paper Output Tray and Inner Cover, and then press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank whose lamp is off until the ink tank clicks into place. Once the ink tank is installed properly its lamp will light red.
Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off as shown in (1). If a part of the orange tape remains as shown in (2), remove it completely.

(1) Correct (An L-shaped notch* appears on the ink tank.)

(2) Incorrect (Orange tape remains. Peel off the tape along the perforation.)
