My computer wont detect the mp3 and connect

Is the player working normally otherwise?

If so, then try the player in a different USB port on your computer. When plugged in, the display of the Pearl should say that it is connected to a USB device and it will show up automatically as a removable external drive in your windows explorer.

If not, then upgrade the firmware in the unit and the computer will recognize it again. Download the firmware upgradefrom http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again.

Help

When my computer stopped recognizing my RCA Pearl, I was able to fix the firmware inside the mp3 player even though the computer didn't seem to think it was there.

You mentioned you tried to reinstall the software, & got nothing, but I will walk you through reinstalling the firmware on your player as this is the most likely fix.

You can download the RCA TH1102 software here:

When you start this program, a windows pops up with troubleshooting instructions are the bottom. You can read them, but I will also take you through the steps.

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery from the TH1102 & wait at least 10 secs,
  3. hold the play button while plugging into usb,
  4. release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. click the start button to replace the firmware.
Hope that helps.

It says exceeded usable memory and shuts down and wont come back on

I haven't seen the exceeded usable memory message on mine, but I am familiar with Pearls not coming back on.

First, perform a reset buy removing the battery for at least 10s. Sometimes mine just shows the plain pearl logo (not the moving one) and then shuts off. Removing the battery for a while and then putting it back in always fixes it so that it shows the plain pearl logo for few seconds then displays the animated logo and starts normally.

If this fix doesn't work for you, then the firmware inside the Pearl is most likely corrupted, and can be easily fixed by running this software from the RCA website and following these steps:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery from the TH1102 & wait at least 10 secs,
  3. hold the play button while plugging into usb,
  4. release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. click the start button to replace the firmware.
Hope that helps.

My mp3 won't connect when I plug it in to my computer

This solution works even if your computer does not recognize your pearl:

Last night I replaced my battery and my unit would not go any further than the Pearl logo. So this morning I downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
check the box that says "format data",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again. It also fixed my aac-error problem.

RCA pearl 1602-A won't register when plugged into USB port.

When my computer wouldn't recognize my Pearl, these are the steps I followed after downloading the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1

remove the battery,
start the program,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button when the term "initializing" replaces "searching",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

You might want to try leaving the "format data" box unchecked the first time. If that doesn't work and allow you to backup your music, bite the bullet and format the data area.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again. It also fixed my aac-error problem.

Cant get it to come up on the computer

My only idea is the connector to the player is corrupted or problematic. I would honestly take the player back to the store and get a new one. It seems its not the computer but the player itself. These things happen to many players and many friends of mine have had similar problems with RCA players.

My pearl th1602 is froze

Remove battery, press and hold "Play" button when inserting into USB port. Run the firmware update and should be able to re-initialize the device, start the update with the "Format" option checked. Worked for me.

As you plug the device into the computer, hold down the Play button. Leave it held until you see that it is installing new hardware (something like ROM initializing). If this doesn't work, you may need to add devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 to your environment variables (search that variable to find how if you don't know) and then in the device manager go to view and show hidden. Make sure the device is not plugged in and then remove all references to it in the device manager (any grey USB MSD or HID is what I removed). Now plug in the device while holding in the play button. I had to reboot to complete this part. Now you should be able to load the firmware (this was required here, it will format the device so there will be no files on it, including the ones that it shipped with).
