I have a GE JES1456WFC001 1100 watt counter top microwave oven. It was purchased at Wal-Mart approximately 4 years ago. It has worked fine until now. The problem is that oven will now turn itself on all by itself. When this happens, it gets hot very quickly. I can turn the oven off by pressing the cancel button, but the oven will turn itself back on in short order. The oven is now unplugged. I suspect the problem is a sticking touch pad button called "vegetable". The phrase "fresh vegetable" appears in the display window when the oven turns itself on. Can this problem be repaired? Is there a safety recall from General Electric? Thank you for your help.
You are correct. The keypad is failing.
If you might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.
If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs, assuming we can get the part for this Canadian model.
We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
