Question about Teac Floppy Drive 235HF Internal Floppy Drive

1 Answer

Won't read disks

Hello, I have an external floppy drive, about 75% of the time I get a screen telling me i have to format the disk, however the disk is already formatted and i've used it previously to put pictures on my computer. Lately now when I try to upload any photos I get a Not Responding problem and the only way to fix it is to turn off my computer and reboot. It's become almost impossible to upload any photos using this floppy drive, any suggestions?

Thanks

Hey Rorel,

The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Sabrent external floppy reader is asking me to format my floppy disk. how can a format it without deleting my files on floppy disk?

Your floppy disk drive may be defective. Also, Some floppy drives are manufactured differently. Your best bet is to find another floppy drive to read your floppy disk. You can try to take it to the nearest computer store and ask them to read it for you. If they can read it at the computer store? The Sabrent drive you received if bad. If they cannot read it the floppy is bad. If the floppy is bad you can try to download free data recovery software to attempt to recover your data, files etc. Good luck

Absolutely EVERY floppy disk inserted tells me that the disk is NOT FORMATTED. I know for a fact that there are files on them.

I suspect a problem with either your former drive or the TECC drive. May I suggest you try formatting a disk with the TECC to see it will recognize that disk as formatted?

If your other drive was a little off and all your floppies were written by that drive, I hope you still have it. On the other hand, if the floppies were written by the TECC, it being a external drive, it may have been dropped accidently and it now is out of whack requiring adjustment.

Im sorry you are having this trouble.

I have a USB portable diskette external floppy drive. It is new. It is supposed to work by simply plugging the in teh usb. When I try to use it, it always tells me to format the disk. i of course, do not...

Try different and empty disk, then format it, when you can open it after you format it, then your first disk is damaged.

If still persist, then clean the drive using floppy drive cleaner, it should work.

Solution 1.
Try using the Installation CD or Utiltity CD that came with your drive to format it.

If theres a Utility CD then install it on your computer and try formating it from the utility application.

If the windows error messages still persist then try formating it with the windows default options or NTFS option.

Sounds like you have a bad drive or the disk is corrupted. Did you try a different floppy disk to see if the drive is functioning?

Asking to format not reading floppies

I can tell you just what I told someone else with the same problem a minute ago. Your computer doesn't support the floppy format you saved the data on the disk with. All you can really do is try putting the disk in every computer you can find until one of them reads it. So, basically, there may not be much you can do. Personally, I hate removable disks. I have that same problem with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.
