I do have the newer style Phillips lamp(smaller lamp) with the correct ballast. How do I tell which color wheel I need for my TV? And is there any adjustment on the screen I need to make after replacing the color wheel? Thanks, Brandon

Re: About the color wheel option
Hello Brandon B,
look on the side of the unit there will be a sticker with Model number, serial number and Version code. The version code will tell me what color wheel you need. There maybe some CCA adjustment you need to do using the remote in Service mode. Let me know what the version number. We will go from there. You can contact www.interactiverepair.com they will walk you through the installation process

I have a HNL5065W samsung that i just repair if it was the lamp you would not get sound,When Lamp goes out set will not come on only Flashing front lights, how long does yours play before cutting OFF? There is a couple of capacitors that will go bad on power board,CK to see if any of the capacitors are puffed up on top if so thats your problem.,But remember Ballast starts up LAMP CK the big capacitor on ballast board and small ones ,also Keep in mind it could be Ballast,if set keeps playing with sound and no picture another thing make sure nothing has come unpluged on DMD board, this board also will keep lamp from firing.OK heres another thing IF COLOR WHEEL is not spinning correctly lamp will not fire up, if it spins to slow or too fast most samsungs start out with Bad Color Wheel.I Buy on E-Bay got My lamp for 85.00 Ballast board 55.00 Ballast board at other companys 117.00 plus shipping! Color Wheel was 65.00.
First, A common mistake made is when you insert the orange ribbon cable from the Color Wheel into the DMD bd. To correctly insert the Ribbon Cable you need to look at both sides. You will see a shiny silver side and a dull black/orange side. You must insert the shiny silver side AWAY from the Color Wheel or towards the rear of the set. Now for the Ballast. When you power up the tv,Do you hear a short Buzzing sound? If you do that means that the Ballast is trying to fire up the Lamp and is working. Next, do you hear the Color Wheel spin up? If you do not then you have installed the Color Wheel incorrectly and you need to repeat the installation while making sure that you hold the rubber gasket in perfect place or else it won,t work. Chances are the gasket is in the wrong position and is binding the Glass Wheel. The Ballast is on the right side of the engine and on top of the Lamp Housing. You will see two RED High Voltage wires coming out of one end. Don't worry, there is no stored voltage in the ballast so you won't get a shock providing you have unplugged the tv from the outlet. That is the first step before you change any parts any way. Listen for the correct start sequence. With the rear backing off and the Safety Interlock Switch is being held in the up position, turn on the set. First sound you hear is a clicking which is the power on relay engageing. Then you will hear the fans turn on and then the Color Wheel spin up. Once the Color Wheel spins up and comes to full RPM then the Exciter on the Ballast will Buzz for less than half a second and then the Lamp should light up. Now if you have installed the correct Lamp and correctly installed the Color Wheel and you either are holding up the Interlock Switch or have reinstalled the rear cover and tightened all of the screws you should have a working tv.
hi, leaves only 3 options
1. color wheel not coming up to 6000 rpm`s
2. no ballast strike to lamp
3. lamp door safety switch in wrong position when door was re-attatched.
highly unlikely but not impossible u got a defective lamp, did your old lamp still come on? if so put it back in, if it lights up new lamp is bad, my money is on the color wheel if you installed lamp door correctly, gl, video-tek
The color wheel will normally spin-up even for a brief moment when the set is powered up. I have not seen a color wheel go out with a lamp. I have seen a ballast go bad with a lamp. I would replace the ballast first. You did not state wheather the color wheel was noisy or not. On the Samsung DLP, the color wheel is normally very noisy before it is gone. I hope this will help you.
Sounds like you've already gotten into the repairs. The three major things that fail on DLP are the bulb, the ballast and the color wheel. If your bulb is new and you aren't getting anywhere, replace the ballast, if that is still a no go, then move on to the color wheel. If replacing those three doesn't fix the problem, you will have to whip out the multimeter and start looking for problems on the PSB. You can get a ballast on ebay for about $100. Start there. The color wheel should be very freely moving. If something is grinding and hindering the movement at all, you need to replace it. That grinding may not seem like much but it is likely enough to keep the wheel from spinning at proper speeds. The sensor then kicks in and tells the brain that there is a problem and the brain keeps the ballast from firing the lamp.
YOU PROBABLY NEED A DMD BOARD. THE COST OF THE BOARD IS $900 . YOU CAN GET A LIGHT ENGINE FOR $700 THAT HAS A NEW LAMP, COLOR WHEEL, BALLAST AND DMD. WHAT A DEAL . THERE IS A $400 CORE ON IT SO YOU WILL HAVE TO SEND BACK YOUR NEW BALLAST AND LAMP TO GET THE CREDIT BACK. WHEN I GIVE A QUOTE ON THESE SETS FOR REPAIR MOST OF THE TIME IT EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF GETTING A NEWER BETTER SET. DON.
This could be lamp or ballast. First I would check the lamp. It could be bad (causing the clicking) or it may just need to be reseated with the ballast. If the lamp is not bad make sure it is connected to the ballast and pushed all the way in. If you still hear the clicking (the clicking may be the ballast trying to light the lamp. when turning on your tv, look to see if the ballast is flickering causing the clicking) and your lamp is good and seated correctly, then you ballast is going bad and it needs to be replaced. Last but not least. If that is not the problem then the clicking is a broken color wheel. A broken color wheel will sound like a clicking or a high squeal when going bad.
This is normal . It is telling me it is trying to turn on the lamp. But are you having a problem with the set now or is this something you've just noticed. If your set is not working check the the lamp or make sure it is seated correctly.
