No, it is one of the three parts that can be changed by the consumer. My husband changed out ours but the TV still doesn't work. Now it has been suggested that we try a new ballast, we have already put in a new lamp as well.

When i turn on my tv i can hear a noise coming from the back. it appears near the fan and power supply area. after maybe 20 minutes the tv shuts off.

You have a bad color wheel that will have to be replaced. If you donot have a technical bend of mind, They are a bit difficult to fix and you may end up dmaging it. be very careful and make sure you have the correct color wheel. A bearing change of switching the color disc will not produce good colors and also fail again soon as this wheel spins at nearly 7000 rpm.

Picture is black and white and fleckers. changed

In most cases this is due to the fact that the color wheel has shattered into pieces and will need to be replaced. Replacing the color wheel is not too easy, but if you are technically handy it isn't that tough to replace either. The part number for the color wheel is BP96-00250A and will run between 80-130 dollars for the part.

Color wheel - light engine assembly is bad, must be replaced. New assemblies not available, try ebay. You''ll need technical expertise or you'll need to hire a tv service shop. MOst shops will NOT sel you a used color wheel assembly, but they will install one if you buy it.
