If you are not dismounting your pen drive before removing it, you run the risk of wiping out the contents of the pen drive. You didn't mention that you were dismounting it before removing it, which is why I suggest that this may be the problem. The way to properly dismount a drive or any other USB device is to go to the lower right hand corner of the PC screen and look at all of the icons for the one that says "Safely Remove Hardware", click it and then follow the instructions. Under Windows Vista, the Icon has a small white checkmark in a green circle, but other versions of Windows may have a different icon.
