My new canon EOS 550D with 18-55 kit lens does not focus properly. It produces consistently out of focus (OOF) or partially OOF in both AF and MF modes. I'm an experienced photographer, and have tried over 1000 test shots with this camera, and not one shot has been satisfactory. Is it a defective model? I'm inclined to return it under warranty. Please advise (Eric)

I agree...return it. A brand new camera should be making you happy, not frustrated.

norstar69 - i took mine to a local camera store to have it checked out in case i was doing something wrong, but got it confirmed that it was a buggered camera. so i called up the store i got it from, with the information the camera guy gave me, and i got it exchanged for a new WORKING copy.

Camera takes blurry pictures up close and sharper ones from afar. Camera will not focus on specific object either.

There is a "close focus" limit, depending on your lens. The standard "kit lens" won't focus closer than about 2 feet away. Check that the switch on the lens is set to "AF" not "MF" "MF" means, "manual focus".
When you lightly press the shutter button, the viewfinder should blink with little dots/squares indicating what it focused on, and beep. If it doesn't, and you are set for "AF", then your camera needs repair.

My camera does not take pictures when on af focus. what should i do?

The first thing you should do is test another lens on your camera. If the other lens doesn't focus then there is a problem with your camera body. "If the other lens DOES focus, then it's a problem with your lens. In both cases your camera or lens will need to be repaired

Auto focus not working

Have you checked the lens AF/MF button?
Perhaps your lens is in Manual Focus mode?

Won't focus properly on auto focus.

Depending on your lens, you may have an AF/MF switch. Make sure it's set to AF for Auto Focus. Try increasing your light levels. Does focus work in a good light setting?

You should have a button that looks like a matrix. Press this button to set your focus point. Use the joy-stick like wheel to select the focus point. Press it to select Auto Focus points.

Canon auto focus lens will not operate

If lens has AF/MF switch, make sure it's set to AF. Check/clean connectors between camera and lens. Try with good light source.

My Canon EOS Rebel XT 350d will not autofocus.

Sound like a broken ribbon cable in the lens. Needs to be replaced but get a quote as it may be cheaper to replace the lens with a secondhand one.

Wont auto focus. Not sure why

There is a button to the side on your lens that says AF/MF. You are probably on MF (manual focus). Switch it and you should be fine! Hope this helps!

My canon rebel XSi will not auto focus

Actually what I found to solve the problem was to first set the lens in "MF" and practice taking a picture manually to see if that would work. When I did this, I discovered that the fine tuning portion of the lens was somehow stuck mechanically. I heard a loud click as I turned it. That was all it took to fix the focusing mechanism on the lens. Then I set to "AF" and Voila, the camera worked just fine.

See-through lens is blurry and does not reflect the change in focus when I adjust the wide angle lens on my digital rebel xti. What's the problem and how can I fix it?

Check the AF/MF switch over the lens left side. Should be on AF to let the camera focus by itself. If not, you have to manually focus using the focusing ring.

If the camera is in AF and still no focusing, considere to carry your camera for service.
