I can turn the computer on...the monitor works, everything is connected, but the computer will not pull up the screen saver screen so I can select any software. I only use it for email and can't access the internet launch. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Do you have screen savers or monitor off setting enabled on the computer? If so turn them off before doing the install. (PS if you have a flat screen monitor, there is no need what so ever for a screen saver, other than to waste systems resources.)

Remove password

If you are using WINXP, right click on the open desktop. From the pull-down menu, select PROPERTIES. From the PROPERTIES window, select the SCREEN SAVER tab. Uncheck the "On resume, password protect" check box. If you are using WIN 7, go to CONTROL PANEL, then APPEARANCE and PERSONALIZATION, then PERSONALIZATION. At the bottom, select SCREEN SAVER. In the SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS window, uncheck the "On resume, password protect" check box. This will allow you to wake up from screen saver without having to use password.

I have a dell studio 540 desktop, I need to restore to factory settings but my monitor will not stay open. It opens for a few seconds then immediately goes into power saver mode and turns off, how can

I see two things here, but need clarification;

1) Monitor goes to Power Saver Mode, then turns -> OFF?

Sure that monitor didn't go into Standby Mode?

2) Why are you performing a restore back to factory settings?
Pick up a virus?

Primer;
The monitor receives a signal. A video signal. The video signal comes from the computer.

If the monitor is NOT receiving a video signal, then the monitor will state No Signal.
This is for older monitors.

New monitors do not state No Signal anymore.
It's Power Saver Mode, or Sleep Mode.

If the monitor is truly OFF, the Power On button will Not be lit up.
Or the Power On LED light on the monitor.

Monitor power on LED is lit, or Power On button is lit?

Monitor is not receiving a video signal;

Use a monitor cable from a KNOWN to be working monitor, for a temporary test.
OR,
Use a Known to be working monitor, and it's monitor cable.

Need to find out if monitor cable is good.

Monitor cable checks out good?

Then problem is computer.

The two leading issues with desktop computer failure, is;

1) Computer is dirty inside
2) Power Supply inside computer is bad.

Please post back in a Comment.

Might as well try to access it thru safe mode with networking if it s working fine , if not try to connect an external monitor / or better yet if you can access safemode with networking try to disable some of the start-up programs thru msconfig.

Monitor keeps hibernating, can't make it stop, pixel issue.

Hey,

I think this is more of a problem on your computer instead of the monitor, ofcourse you could try another monitor and see if the same happens. I suspect your computer goes into standby or hibernation on its own, and it does work fine if you reset the computer right?

if you go into power management again, disable or turn off hibernation completely, its on one of the pages.
Make sure its not set to standby, and also disable your screen saver.

Right click on desktop - properties - then screensaver. turn it to none.

Also you could look into the computer bios and make sure its not set to standby or hibernation from there. thats unlikely but you could check.

how to get into bios.. depends on the computer, right when you turn it on, on one of the corners of the screen you will get a message, press button to enter setup or bios. press that to enter bios when its presented.

look around the bios and poweroptions.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

My 4 month old laptop is not working

If the monitor turns black - maybe you have a screen saver or there is a fault with your display. Try using an alternative monitor or flat panel.

What do you mean by blockt?

My screen savers turn off about 4 times in a 24 hr. period I have use savers that I have down loaded and I have use those that come with windows 2000 they all do the same thing can you help me??

  1. Open up your start menu, look for control panel.
  2. Click on display.
  3. Click on the screen saver tab.
  4. In the monitor power section, there should be a button labeled Power, click on that to access the settings.
  5. Change the required settings to Never, this will leave everything on whilst the computer is powered up.

I have also posted a picture to help illustrate this.
