Two different machines and problems.
on the sears mach. need more info. make sure mach. is turned off when you plug it in. does it still make a noise? does it make the noise when you turn the mach. on? what kind of noise. does it still work?
on the olivetti, check the ribbon. if it is at the end, the mach. may not work. replace ribbon. check to make sure printwheel is latched into place and the cover is down. if it still doesn't work it may need a new main board.

After a lightning storm my lexmark 1000, will only beep, the printer head will not return. I've tried powering down, replacing the batteries and tried the clear button. Is there anything else to be...

If you didn't try turning it off for a min. with the batteries out try that.
It probably needs a board or power supply.

There are some great deals on W/W typewriters on EBAY but watch the shipping charges.

How to install daisy printwheel and cassette ribbon on Sears electric typewriter Model #161.53024650

Nobody wants to try so i'll give it a shot. All Sears typewriters are made by some one else. ROYAL, SCM, Olivetti ETC.) Most daisy wheels are released with a lever just l. or r. of the wheel pull it towards you and remove the wheel. There are 2 basic types of ribbon the ones that are released by a lever and those that just snap in.

Hope I was helpful

Brother Electric typewriter ax-22

sounds like it needs a good clean. Your best bet would be to look out for a Brother service centre or at least an established typewriter repair centre. Most modern technicians will be able to get your Brother working again...Good luck!
