We have a freezer full of fish and meat and it seems that the freezer is not freezing properly. The little green light at the bottom is flashing. Can you please tell us what we need to do as some of the foods seem to be defrosting.

Check along the back and sides of the freezer for any vent-like openings that are covered or blocked by packages. There may be a sensor that's not getting air flow as it should. Although most upright freezers are now frost free, there still can be ice buildup in critical areas such as the thermal sensor or the fan. Can you tell if the fan is running?

Even if the compressor has failed, your frozen items will keep the temp down for several days. I suggest you move the frozen goods to a neighbor immediately. Meat or fish in particular quickly becomes unsafe to eat without at least refrigeration.

You don't note whether or not you've adjusted the thermostat. Ice cream (and juices) requires at least zero degrees, if not minus 5 degrees, for storage. Meats, fish, bread, etc. can become rock hard at much higher temperatures. Try setting the thermostat lower.

You will need to turn the unit off and let it completely unthaw. There is frost that builds up in the ducts and behind the panels when the door is left open that will cause the unit to not cool or circulate where needed.

THE RED WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING THE FAST FREEZE BUTTON, THIS IS EVERY FEW DAYS. IF I DONT NOTICE ALL THE FOOD DEFROSTS!

I would suggest wadding up about enough newspapers , to completely cover the bottom of the freezer . The ink in the newspaper , will absorb any odor that is in the freezer or can get in , while being stored . This is also , the only way known in the area , to remove fish , or bad meat odor . Takes a little more newspaper for that though .

My advice to you is to transfer the meat to another place (preferably somewhere cold, for both the sake of the meat, and your freezer), let the compressor cool down, and then try starting the freezer. If it does start (it should), let it run until it has pulled the box down to 0 F. Then add the meat back in. Note at the beginning I told you to store the meat somewhere cold. It can be quite an overloading situation for the freezer, not only to have to pull itself down to such a cold temp, but when you add a bunch of "warm" meat to the appliance it is just to much of a load for it to handle. You need to check the temp in the freezer to make sure it's down to around 10 degrees. The alarm will go off much above that.

Are you putting the meat in proper freezer bags and squeezing
air out as you zip lock the bag?
If you do not use proper freezer bags you will always get freezer burn on meats!

WAIT ! This will not happen in two days!
Seems to me something else has happened to your meat prior to your purchase and it probably is not the freezer at fault.

If it happens to meat that you feel was not frozen when you bought it, check with the store of purchase to see if it came into them frozen before it was put in their refrigerator case!
Most super markets receive cases of frozen meat and then put them in the walk in refrigerator, or refrigerator case to present them for sale to the customers and they defrost in the case.

Then we think we are buying meat that is fresh and never been frozen!
Fresh meat will not freezer burn in 2 days unless it has happened previously to the time you bought it.

Also when you freeze any meat you buy, repack it in proper freezer bags and not just any zip lock bag!

But I believe it happened before you bought it.
And i'll bet it all came from the same store.
that's why some people shop at a butcher shop or Costco type store where the meat is fresher and sells out faster!

these frigidaire made freezers are notorious for having restrictions in the sealed systems that will cause exactly what your describing.

what happens is oil moves around in the freon system and pools up in the capillary tubes and the freon is not able to flow properly. if the unit is under 5 yrs old then should be inwarranty to sears. if its over 5 then probably cheaper to purchase a new one..
