the system battery is there for example a power outage, if a power outage occures then the battery will keep the phone from resetting and loosing all of your phone numbers. so depending on what kind of battery it needs then you might want to call the manufacture.
To program a page button for other extensions. At the phone, press Feature 00 press the LIGHTED button you want to program. press the LEFT intercom button, followed by * (star) and the 2 digit extension number. Repeat for more buttons. Feature 00 when done.
Now you can just press the button, and it dials intercom *10 (example)
it will activate the speakerphone and you can talk.
The Privacy is part of FP1. You need to pick a button with a light, put the T/P switch in P, touch the button, dial *72, and put the switch back in the center position.
If that doesn't work, try Auto Ans Intercom or Do Not Disturb under the same button (*70,*71). If you can't get any of the features to work, I'm guessing that the FP cartridge needs to be replaced or power down the system and remove and insert the cartridge again.
If you mean intercom, as in Speaker/overhead paging, then the buttons need to be reprogrammed to access the intercom. If you mean calling from one avaya phone to another, then the system is more then likely fried.
from your system press the intercom button, 61. that should give you the paging access that I think you are looking for.
