The screws are hidden behind the front faceplate.

The faceplate snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly below the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Nuvi stopped talking. where is the mute button located on the unit?

If you are no longer getting the voice guidance from your gps, then you need to check if the volume is on the highest or lowest. There is no mute button on the gps, it is when the volume is at the lowest it seems muted. Ensure the volume is turned up by adjusting the scroll whell that is by the right hand side of the unit.
If that does not help, then you check the language settings in the unit. Verify that the voice is enabled, by following these steps:
  1. from the 'where to? view map' screen, touch 'tools',
  2. Touch 'language',
  3. Next to 'voice language' you will see 'jill' listed in the blue box on the right (if so the unit should be ready to use)
  4. If you do not see a 'voice' listed in the blue box, touch on the blue box,
  5. Select 'voice',
  6. Touch 'ok' at the bottom,
That should do the work for you.

Garmin Nuvi 265 wt...how to get voice command to work?

Hi,
this may require two sessions but - here goes:
1- turn the unit on - select the VOICE icon on the opening screen - triple check it isn't muted and change it to 90% voice volume.
If this doesn't give you sound WHILE DRIVING - it won't give you voice unless you're moving or driving.

Then - turn the unit off - Turn it back on- - as it is starting up - and blank- place your thumb in the LOWER RIGHT CORNER of the blank Screen.

this will open this window:
SELECT - YES - it will reboot and your minor settings will be lost - like saved address and favorites - not your updated maps.

This will reset you to default NEW -
When done - sound will be as it was when new if no sound - return for repair.

It just stopped talking. No voice directions, on

Hit the menu buttom, go to settings, then go to volume and see if it is muted. Sounds like the mute or volume down button got inadvertantly hit and turned down or muted. If this does not work, turn the unit over and look under the fold up antenna for a reset button. Depress this button until the unit restarts and should reset the unit back to factory default settings and get you on your way. Good luck!!! If these don't help you, call the garmin support number at :1-800-800-1020. Hope this helps!

GARMIN C340 VOLUME CONTROL

I had the same issue. My C340 fell of the dash and the volume control (potentiometer) broke off and was rattling inside the case. I tried to find a replacement (103B stamped on the pot) but have not been able to find one. I tried a mini 10K ohm pot from Radio Shack, but the posts were not properly positioned for the circuit board inside the Garmin.

I took the easy way (for now) and simply strapped the two control points together with a piece of wire giving me maximum volume. Orient the circuit board with the missing volume control to at the bottom right. The control mounts with 5 points, two on the right edge of the board are simply physical mounts. There are three other connection points just to the left in a slight arc. The top and bottom point have holes to place the legs of the pot. The broken off legs may still be in these holes. Solder a piece of wire between the top and bottom points. Be careful since the solder pads (to the left of the holes are very delicate.

Not an elegant filx, but you get the voice back.

My Nuvi 360 volume for the voice prompts is too low, even on the highest setting. I also have a Nuvi 200, and the volume is fine on that unit. But if I get a phone call on my 360, the volume is OK. Is...

It is possible to turn up the voice level...but you have to be willing to hack the voice file a wee bit with a hex editor.
Just Open the .vpm file you want to modify in the hex editor, and search for "<voice_volume>96</voice_volume>" without the quotation marks...and change the numerical value - I have Australian Karen cranked up to 96. This makes the sound level of the voice prompts comparable to the MP3 level when I hook my Nuvi350 into my vehicle's sound system via the added line input that takes the place of the non-existent CD changer. Before I did this, when I played MP3s at a comfotable listening level, the voice prompts were too quiet. Now, they're comparable.

Voice quit working

I assume you have made sure the volume knob on the right side of the unit is adjusted all the way up. Have you also made sure the volume icon has the volume up? Does the unit make any sounds at all?

Magellan Roadmate 700 GPS

1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

GOOD LUCK!
NOTES: My screen indeed locked at first as covered in the last step, so expect that to happen. Don't worry if you never get to do step 5 and 6. Connecting the USB, deleting the SND file and restarting it works and the sound is back even without the file there.

This only fixes the Female voice along with the beeps and clicks. The unit goes silent again if you select the male voice but switching back to the female fixed that. I assume "_F" in the file name must mean female.

The display still shows "AFIJDEN...." or something like that instead of the word Exit or Entrance when exiting or entering the freeway. Voice is fine though. Anyone got a fix for that?
